Dammit: Reprise

A revision of my earlier version of this cover, since I had a night to burn at school. Bigger, a bit less background noise, a little more banjo.

Our Age (Constantines cover)

Its been too long since I've last posted here. I've been a big fan of the Constantines since the time the Arcade Fire were opening for them. This is a cover of a song off of their new album. [more inside]

Fear of Falling

By chance I just came across this recording I made over a year ago. The song is by the chronically underrated I Am Kloot.

Say gnfti, how's your falsetto doing? Why, I'm glad you ask! Here's a Loney, dear cover.

Barley & Grape Rag

A cover of the Rory Gallagher track. I decided to learn this tune instead of doing some proper work today. I think I definitely need to find where I put that pop shield....

rabo de nube

Actually this song is not my own. I was just wondering... may I point to a beautiful song by providing my own rendition here ? It was written by Silvio Rodriguez.

The Model

I've been out of the game for a while, so I thought I'd warm up by covering the Kraftwerk classic acoustically. I thought I'd try some alliteration aswell...

Monkey

At empyrean's request. I needed a break from mixing my own songs anyway, so I threw together this quick & dirty cover of the Counting Crows song in 15 minutes, and uploaded it warts and all - one take off the top of my head, complete with missed notes, words, and chords. Enjoy.

Beware of Darkness

First of all, hello.. long time mefi reader/listener and I just registered a few days ago. I heard this song for the first time about a month ago (don't laugh) and fell in love with it. I've listened mainly to the acoustic version and only a few times to the other version. I couldn't sleep tonight so I recorded this version, which is kind of a mix between the two. Let me know what you think about it, (ie: do I suck at guitar / singing / recording / making posts, etc...).

Power of Love

Thanks to two class cancellations due to ice storms in the Capital, I was able to arrange and record this Valentine's day treat. Imagine Huey Lewis, baritone, with a banjo.

Man or Astroaletz

Someone asked for more rockabilly. This is a song written by some friends, Los Esquizitos, performed and recorded here by us, with a drum track laid by their drummer.

Radio Cure (cover)

A lofi, live, solo acoustic cover of the fantastic Yankee Hotel Foxtrot track, recorded a few years back. Music has been way too slow the last couple days, dammit.

La Palma (1958)

A song originally by Mono Blanco, performed here by my band. We decided to EQ it in such a way that it would sound as if coming from an old radio. Being upbeat and cheerful, I thought it would be a good way to start the week.

Elliott Smith's "Waltz #2 (XO)"

"Borderline/Norwegian Wood"

I'm singing and playing the Reggie Lucas-written hit off Madonna's first album, but I just threw in George Harrison's wistfully lilting lick on the Beatles' "Revolver" classic for fun.

New York Mining Disaster 1941

Acoustic cover, me and Chris Otto sharing vocals. Living room demo on Tascam 4-track tape deck, recorded around 8 years ago or so. A song I've always loved to sing. Sorry the last couple of seconds are clipped off; I'm not sure why.

Mrs. Green

Semi-acoustic cover of "Mrs. Green" by the power pop band the Posies. This was done by a 3 piece band (two guitars, one bass) group I was in a while back. (We never could find a drummer, so...) I'm singing lead and also a back up part near the end. The other band members are Chris Otto and Terri Doherty. Chris did lead guitar, backing vocals, and some keys. Terri played bass. I think I did some random percussion and guitar strumming as well. (Please delete when/if covers are determined to be a problem here.)

Ana Ng (acoustic)

This is an acoustic cover of the wonderful TMBG song Ana Ng, done on a four track recorder many years ago. Though I did once see "I don't want the world, I just want your half" painted on a bridge (it was really surprising and cool to discover), we substituted "Homies '88" in its place because we had recently seen that on a bridge and thought it a bit absurd that someone took the time and effort to paint such a doofy message.

Welcome to the Jungle (acoustic)

This is an acoustic cover of the very excellent They Might Be Giants song Welcome to the Jungle. As a gag, the beginning instrumental bit copies the Guns N' Roses song Welcome to the Jungle. Though my old "band" did this, just about every instrument on this track (including the backup vocals) was done by one bandmember.
