Does this belong in a movie?

There's a song with words and stuff that this was originally based on, but I like the instrumental version better. Mellow, textured, haunting, builds slowly. What do you think?

Tough Love Black Eye

Punk, metal, jazz, slack, folk and noise. This pretty much typifies the grab bag that was my band, Big Ghost. Like trying to get Pavement and RHCP to agree on California rock. It's a mess, but it was our kinda mess. [more inside]

Men's Retreat

New recording of an old song with the following Garageband synths: "hip hop kit", "pop flute" and "shimmering harpsichord" (IIRC). Song about good friends who have, by now, all moved away. I'd love any thoughts on this. [more inside]

Made In The Image

New and much improved mix of a song from a few years ago. Kinda rock-metal-electronic fun with a pretty good helping of vocal harmonies. Critique away!

Beautiful Bidet

A short song about the positive and then the negative male relationships in my life. Features classical guitar, reverbed out bowed banjo, auto-tuning, synth, french doors slamming. This is the latest in a string of versions of this song, having trouble finishing it. [more inside]

a strange and mysterious adventure

This instrumental track was originally named "Em wrong" because it came out of absentmindedly playing my guitar while watching tv and accidentally strumming an E minor chord incorrectly on the 3rd fret. The resulting song has an uneasy, mysterious vibe. [more inside]

Spacetime

A little progish - lots of analog synth, lots of interesting sounds, harmonies, counterpoint, a little odd meter, hopefully pretty catchy chorus, and one of the more obscure lyrics I've written (lyrics inside)... lots of stuff! [more inside]

Bring the Chase

Guitar and synth rock, with a certain whiff of the 70s about it, and a comparatively laid back chorus that I'm pretty happy with. Lyrics inside. [more inside]

Glow

I made this song last summer (2006). It has the usual synth and drum machine, as well as the addition of a little guitar. Very fast-paced, yet relaxed. Oh, and, of course, it'll someday (maybe) have lyrics.

Montage

an overwhelmingly ambient texture, pierced with many elements of various density - scraped percussion, Latin and bluegrass gestures, strings, somber guitar notes and swirling electronics. Very soundtrack, very visual, particuarly for fans of Gustavo Santaolalla.

Snakey

This is a song I did in 1995 with my band Verge on the album Little Idiot. This recording is entirely the product of the studio, but we would play it live too. (We'd drag out a lot of gear that would barely function at times to do just that...) We made this recording in the basement of my loft (at the time, sigh) in Williamsburg sometime between 1993 and 1995, sequencing it on a Mac IIci computer with no sampling or digital audio though we did record onto a digital 8-track tape recorder (remember "tape"?) so the guitar solos and voice and synth and things are pretty well as they occurred.

SeaSong

Cultural Amnesia is a group that I was in during the early 80s and a quarter of a century later we are still, occasionally, doing it. SeaSong is a track we recorded in 2004. We did record some songs earlier this year, but they're not fully buffed up for release yet. There will be a vinyl record of our old stuff released later this year.
