Mellow Morns

An eggs-tremely mellow morning improv sesh on the synth rig!!!

eemz haleemz

so I've been using this songwriting trick where I program a simple loop using the sequencer on my synths and sort of riff off of it to come up with the other instrumental parts. Then, when I have the idea properly fleshed out, I remove the synths. A songwriting scaffold, of sorts (though in many cases I have kept the original loop in there!!!) Anyways, for this track I included the synth loop at the very beginning so you can hear what I'm riffing off of for the rest of the track. Hope you like it!!!! -CA

Special Teams

Tried a bunch of new stuff this time round. It's a dance trance but I played almost everything live, including the drums which were "performed" on the keyboard, because I'm not a drummer. The only things that were automated were the drum fills, crash cymbals, and the marimba/piano 2 patterns.

Time (the Revelator)

More microKORG experimentation, this time a Gillian Welch cover. I've finally gotten around to listening to this album recently, and a lot; it's really latching on to me. The title track is gorgeous and where I can't match Welch's vocals I can get weird instead, so: vocoder time. [more inside]

Exhalation

This was a sort of contemplative outro track for an album I released on Soundcloud earlier this year. The highlight is probably the delightfully warbly horn synth I stumbled across that did a decent job of filling out the song's character with its wandering melody.

I Bought A MicroKORG (I Apologize)

After coveting the things for 15+ years I finally went and bought a microKORG synth/vocoder from a person in town who was selling it slightly used for cheaper. I have been playing with it all morning and here is an attempt to put several pieces together in a hastily improvised song. [more inside]

Make Right the Time

This is my synth-based anthem cover of the song by singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt. This version is an earlier draft from 2018, mostly from a whirlwind month when I was trying to get as much done before my trial of Ableton Live ended. Me on vocals, synth/loops. Many thanks to not_on_display for the arrangement idea and feedback through multiple iterations. Basically I made this to help myself feel better, and I figure it's something I could share especially now. [more inside]

Soothin' Synths, Part 2: a Synthy Lullaby

We have a Prophet-6 at work right now and I just found out that the sequencer is polyphonic. Programmed a chordy little loop and messed around with it a bit while grabbing it on my H2. Hope you enjoy the pure, unaccompanied sound of this gorgeous synthesizer!

Does this belong in a movie?

There's a song with words and stuff that this was originally based on, but I like the instrumental version better. Mellow, textured, haunting, builds slowly. What do you think?

OP-1 Clicks and womms

Recently got a Teenage Engineering OP-1 and this is a first attempt to put the 4-track through it's paces. It's a noisy little thing, extremely digital. In addition decided to put this together without any sequencers so the rhythms are... inconsistent. This is straight out of the device, no additional processing.
