And the Sunrise Welcomes You Home

A short instrumental piece (featuring synth) in which I basically have fun building from a loop. This is my entry for the MeFi Music challenge to submit music inspired by a MeFi post (I Saw This Thing On The Blue And...). Credit actually goes to three MetaFilter-related posts from last month: two MeFi posts by not_on_display and one MeFi Music post by ignignokt; they inspired me to create electronic music again after a decade+ hiatus. Thoughts in B-flat

In the past couple of weeks, I found myself going back to a piece that I'd started working on a few years ago -- probably because it's in a slower triple meter that's somewhat calming for me. This is a condensed one-minute version, featuring piano and guitar, for the 60 Seconds and Under #2 MeFi Music Challenge. [more inside]

August, Again

For the music challenge, something that sounds like I've been feeling lately. Plenty of pump organ and piano. [more inside]

Troll's Theme Song

Originally titled Möbius Madness, this recursive ditty has been repurposed for the January Challenge. Truncated from its original length of 26 minutes to meet the 10MB size restriction, Troll's Theme Song is meant to demoralize the listener; it may cause confusion, insanity, and bleeding of the ears. Free Refills 2011

A slower reworking of a track I made in the late 90s when I was the beat maker for a hip hop group. The song never got made. [more inside]

Chromatic Satori

For the January challenge, fellow mefite mahershalal and I came up with this little number. Kind of a jazz-influenced instrumental shoegaze number, I guess. [more inside]

Shchedryk

A quick surf-punk blast thru the Ukrainian folk song which was neutered into Carol of the Bells. For the challenge, obviously! [more inside]

Balkan Red Alert Part II

Just sneaking this one under the wire for the Hallowe'en challenge. A thrown-together palate cleanser from the recent power pop -- a piece of Eastern European-flavored surf about the scariest thing I can think of. I actually gave myself the shivers when I was putting together the ending so it's probably worth sticking around for that. [more inside]

Techno Space Chase

I think I actually covered both challenges with this. It's chase music made out of one of the earliest string quartets I'd ever taken a crack at. [more inside]

The Dangers of Buying an Older House

A moody composition on behalf of the things in our new house that very much want us to know we were there first. Happy Halloween! [more inside]

Demented Children's Songs

A nightmarish take on children's music. I always imagine myself stuck in a carnival funhouse being chased around by evil clowns when I listen to this. From 1995 and one of the first songs I ever wrote. Some completely out of control layering towards the end! [more inside]

Blah blah blah (cover version)

This is a pointless instrumental cover version of Meatbomb's recent a capella (one extreme to the other), Blah blah blah for the MeFi Music challenge, so now you can sing along to the tune*! [more inside]

My Granny's House Was Scary

3/4 of the way through my Tom Waits impression, I realized I could play the riff from Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath" over the top.
