Mellow Morns
An eggs-tremely mellow morning improv sesh on the synth rig!!!
And the Sunlight Among the Trees
A short (1:27) original piece of me on solo piano. It's a reworking / different arrangement of a previous tune I posted, which was piano & guitar. This is a slightly different take on rhythm and melody -- more of a contemplative feeling, and still reflective and reassuring (I hope). Happy new year, MetaFilter! [more inside]
Manhattan Skyline
Some recent discussion on MeFi about the band a-ha reminded me that I'd recorded this acoustic cover of one of their songs a long time ago. This is actually based on an arrangement by Kings of Convenience, who made some interesting changes to the original song structure. Me on vocals and guitars (nylon-string and steel-string). Time
It's been a while but I'm back with an evolving sound (and a changing voice). My new "official" single, "Time," is a midtempo, mysterious, moody alternative rock song with rich vocals. [more inside]
Doodlebug001
I sat in bed and doodled around in Animoog.
Stay
Flowing, dark piano and atmospheric synth. TBH I've been tinkering with this for so long that I'm not sure if I like it anymore. (It's like the "if you a repeat a word enough times it doesn't even sound like a word" effect--I don't hear what I once heard in it.) But I really liked the piano part when I first came up with it. What do you think?
Was It Something I Said?
So I got the guitar to MIDI to work using my VG99. [more inside]
sound out collaboration
My brother who lives in northwest Florida took the time, energy and money to come out and visit me in New Zealand. He's the only member of my family who's ever taken the effort to come out an visit me in the 8 years since I moved here but unfortunately due to just bad timing and unforeseen circumstances, I couldn't give him the welcome he deserved. where it starts
This is one I did back in 2012. I wanted to do something more electronic but as that's not my forte, it ended up being pretty minimalist. I ended up overlaying a subtle guitar track in the end anyway...
Photographer
There is such a thing as light-imbued melancholy. This song shows that @Ummagma is among a cozy handful of bands nowadays who seem to thrive on achieving that combination. You can find Ummagma here too. [more inside]
Spanish Moss (again)
Photographer
Whispy male vocals and plenty of air for dream-weaving delicately frame this ethereal song. While "Photographer" is one of Ummagma's more melancholy songs, it's far from depressing. This one stands in the light.
Features male vocals by Alexx Kretov (Ukraine).

Channel 19
I grew up when there were only three or four TV channels, no internet. Now people want to be micro-celebrities, and want their privacy to boot. [more inside]
Femme Fatale (VN+U Cover)
Just getting this under the wire for July's music challenge; it's not quite August 1st, at least not where I live. [more inside]
Cambie & Hastings
A more mellowed-out trinket of instrumental dance music for the wistful and introspective; born out of an epic evening of adventure in Vancouver at an intersection of the same name.
Mellow Ocean Groove
Just a sketch/idea of a song. Doubt I'll do anything with this, but it seemed a shame to toss it. [more inside]

Secret Book (Vocal Mix)
This is a new version of Secret Book, of which I originally posted an instrumental version here. On the new mix, my wife Lori sings beautifully, and I wail a bit at the end. [more inside]
Sub Rosa
For those in a good mood, I offer a song of loss and betrayal. Enjoy! [more inside]
Secret Book
An instrumental, rough mix of yet another track from Tangemeenie's work-in-progress, "The Gilded Age." This one takes a low-key, folksy kind of turn. [more inside]
Five Fathoms Down
Melodic, slightly exotic, wistful surf music from Hell. [more inside]
Rivers That Run Within (Rough mix)
A mellow song by my band, Low-Tech Riff Raff. The lead singer had a cold, but I kind of like the mood anyway.
Faint Glimpse
Two minutes of mellow guitar picking on a song I sketched out. Just sit back and relax. [more inside]
seethroughforehead
i made this a few years ago, spacey and twisted, no lyrics. still one of the songs i've done that i'm happy with. mellow. some more stuff on my myspace, let me know what you think of what it sounds like inside my head.
Here Lies a Lonely Man
Under an archway, cross a cobblestone floor through an old wooden door. There's an apartment, and someone lives there, but does anyone care?
Positronic Hips

Do You Know Where Your Children Are?
A very minimalist ditty, recorded in October at SCM Recordings in San Diego. Also, my first MeFi Music post.
It Must Be The Neighbors
A track from an EP I just released called Friendly Songs. The five songs were written for livejournal friends who responded to a memepost.
Dealyspiel (Roughmix)
Electronic, moody little piece, not really house, not really downbeat, but with a little of both.
Hydrogen Eyeliner
A little synthesizer track I've been working on. E-lec-tron-ic, yeah!
Banksia marginata
Chilled beats, just a little bit prickly around the edges. An old song, but I'm thinking of making an album of tracks with botanical names.
if only i had told you earlier
A simple message, left too late.
Useless
I made a record, then I had a kid. I don't get to play much anymore, and I sure would like to get rid of some of my hundreds of CDs I have left! :) Mellow, mopey, been described as Chris Isaak meets Coldplay...
Feeling Down
I'm not angry . . . I'm just feeling down
Naked Jane - Accident
Late night drive, out of state...
Red Sky
A fading red sun and black trees. Written in a fleapit of a kitchen under the glare of a striplight in West Ealing. Be patient and wait for the drums to kick in.... ...the song got us all our gigs in 2005
