Rock, Paper, Scissors (the single mix)

Shorter, sweeter mix of this responding to some of the suggestions on the last one. Lost the first intro, cleaned up the drums, changed the harmonies slightly, brought up the melody guitars, and dropped in a blazing little guitar solo, even if I do say so myself! It's under three minutes now -- give it a listen! Now just have to figure out the B-side...

You and San Francisco (Lighters Out Mix)

The (hopefully) final mix of Y&SF with all the problems fixed and Major Dundee's epic solo finally loud and proud before the last chorus. [more inside]

Don't Fool Me

Full on vocal harmony twin electric 12-string assault, my attempt to collide the Monkees with the Byrds with a side of the Go-Betweens. [more inside]

Where you gonna get your good things now?

One of my favorite chord progressions ever. A demo from about 1995 for a notional solo album, and for once I sound like I'm actually worked up about something, which I was. [more inside]

Hopeful Hopeful

A big ol' composition kind of song. Just a little bit like "post-rock" I guess. As before but this time with multiple takes, stereo, and fun little stuff scattered all around. It's also my first project using Logic Pro, which seems to rock

Paying No Mind

The song started as a very simple guitar progression and evolved from there. I love the sound of crickets, frogs, locusts, rain, thunder, etc. Nature in general. So I found some sound clips, added some more guitar, an oboe here, a drum fill there, and there it is. Simple and relaxing.

Atop the Canopy

A quiet, melodic guitar piece I wrote and recorded with the band I had in high school. I tend towards complex rhythms and harmonies these days; this song reminds me how simple (though not simplistic, I hope!) my songwriting used to be.

Happiness

This is off of my album "Long Story," recorded in summer 1999. It's instrumental acoustic guitar, with some Spanish guitar touches. If you like it, let me know, and I can post other parts of the album. It starts and finishes a bit abruptly because, on the album, each song musically runs into the next.

MA:46 - Tunnel Dwellers Anthem

I'm working on a collection of songs of various genres for a concept album about life in a ruined West Coast city sometime in the future. This song is a demo track of a melodic industrial / rock tune about an oppressed group lashing out.
