Mixer or audio interface?
I'm ready to take the next step with regards to music production hardware, but I have no experience or knowledge with some portions of my possible setup. I would like the hivemind's advice with regards to whether I need a mixer, an audio interface, or both. [more inside]
MeFiGigs?
Would people be interested in organising meetup/gigs with line-ups of musicians who are MeFites?
(I'm in London, but it's also a general question, isn't it?) [more inside]
Another dumb singer
I’m a quietish singer, to play (in three days) a long, small room with an ungreat PA system, manipulated by an inexperienced engineer. What, in two sentences, could I tell him that might help me get my voice across? [more inside]
Third row, second from the right: that goddamn 9 year old is tapping her foot again!
Please help! I do sound for a k-12 school's concerts, and I'm looking for a solution to a problem with choir mics. I've been poking around a lot on line but I can't find anyone who sells pads to muffle footstep sounds coming up through the mic stand. Anyone have any ideas? What would make a good material for this? [more inside]
Acoustic guitar pickup for live work?
Looking for recommendations for an aftermarket pickup for an acoustic guitar, purely for playing live (I have the recording covered). [more inside]
Help a singer/guitarist be a one man band
I'm a singer & guitarist who loves playing live, I usually play at open mic nights, but now and again I like to try and push myself to get out there and put together gigs of my own. One thing I find is once I get past playing about 6 songs, I am looking for a little more variation than just my voice and guitar.
I'm thinking either of playing backing tracks, or playing more instruments as I play the guitar. Does anyone already do this? What are the simplest things I could add to give myself more options? Are there tricks for keeping it my gig and not sounding like I'm tied to a backing track? [more inside]
performance, equipment
Getting ready to start performing around town. [more inside]
Live Sound Perfection
I went to see Cardinals in Birmingham (Carling Academy) last night, and was (once again) blown away at the quality of their live sound. It was LOUD, possibly too loud at times, but I left with no ringing in my ears at all. Nor did my wife or our friends, none of whom frequent loud gigs. How is this possible? [more inside]
Just like Ashlee Simpson!
I'm toying with the idea of playing live again (after more than a decade of staying in the house) and I'd like to gather opinions from all of you: at which point do "backing tracks" become "cheating"? [more inside]
Where does everyone play?
What do you guys do/think about performing? Bedroom musicians, playig with bands, solo, open mic nights, gigs, etc? [more inside]
