Looking for some tips on achieving a certain vocal production sound

I'd like to expand my understanding of some vocal production tricks. Specifically, I'm very interested in the sound of the vocals in this song: On and On, by Justice. I hear slap back reverb, there's a bit of distortion, and that it is quite compressed at early levels of the effects chain, but what else is there?

Mix Feedback

My band has been working on our first self-produced release, and right now I've got a mix that I think sounds pretty good. I haven't done any mastering yet, though that would be the next step. [more inside]

Cassettes: better to fetishize than actually deal with

I'm digitizing a bunch of old tracks off of cassettes, and they have that expected cassette muddiness to them. Does anyone have any advice in remixing and remastering them? [more inside]

Help me record some music please.

I'm slowly getting confident enough to put together some simple recordings, perhaps with the current challenge as a starting point. My #1 song is a simple relatively-pleasant one (the 70s were like that, it seems). My problem is I have no idea how to do it; please help. [more inside]

How to Get that Perfect Mix

So here's the thing: Finally over the Veteran's Day holiday, my wife and I wrapped up the recording phase of the new project we've been working on for Tangemeenie. Now comes the hard part: Mixing. All along, I've been haphazardly churning out rough mixes, a few of which I've posted here in the past. But now, on closer listen, it's clear to me that I abused limiters, compressors and other signal processors and generally made a mess of things in so many minor and major ways in these initial mixes that I now need to do almost a complete reset. So now, I'm eating humble pie. MeFiMu mixing gurus--here's your chance to share your favorite lessons learned or any other pieces of practical advice you might have about the art and science of mixing. [more inside]

Controlling your peaks

I've read that when mixing, you don't want any of your meters to go over 0dB. I know that when recording, going over 0dB will result in clipping distortion which sounds terrible. However, when working with VSTi instruments, I can go as far as I want over 0dB and not have any distortion. So is there any reason to keep things below 0dB in this case, especially since I'm probably going to end up limiting things in the end?
