Loves Deep Mineshaft

Loves Deep Mineshaft is an odd little song recorded in a couple of hours on Thursday afternoon. I make the music and Ron makes the words. I've been playing music for a long time in bands and solo and Ron has been getting his writing published and doing spoken word spots at clubs in New York for years. This is the result of glueing his words and his harmonica to my playing everything else. It comes out a little bit like the last song of the night at David Lynch's favourite bar and I'd really like to know whether other people think it's any good. I tend to like stuff that sounds screwed up like this but I'm not sure anyone else does.

I kind of like this, but in spite of Ron rather than because of him. His singing hits me in just the wrong way -- too self-conscious? -- and the harmonica is all over the place. I like the words, though.

(I'm not a David Lynch fan, either, so I may not be the target audience here.)

Thanks for the feedback Karlos. There's not really a target audience for this as yet. We're just playing around and seeing what comes out. To me it sounds like a bar band somewhere seedy who've had a few too many free drinks but are still plugging away at the end of the night for the last few brave souls still swaying drunkenly on the dance floor. It sounds kind of desperate and I like that. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to everybody though!

Anybody else care to weigh in?

Honestly, if it were up a key or so, I think that Ron's voice is perfectly suited for this. Kinda like Neil Young and Tom Wait's lovechild.

Thanks, Eclectist, that comment really cheered Ron up!
