Canção de amor

November 8, 2008 3:47 PM

As requested by melissa may.

I was wondering what I could do with such a famous song that didn't sound outrageous. I kinda wanted to follow dagosto's good example of being respectful to the original while doing a version that sounded new. There was also the factor that it was requested specifically by melissa may, so ideally the version would be something that she would like. Somewhere I heard that melissa may is a big fan of Os Mutantes, so that was the equation here: Portuguese + lots of tremolo + lots of reverb.

It goes to show all those people who say that Os Mutantes were a bunch of punks tweaking machines to make strange sounds: Os Mutantes were great musicians, this is what a punk tweaking machines sounds like.

Last, here are the lyrics, to give snsranch something new to practice his Portuguese.

Sempre que eu estou só com voce
Me faz sentir que eu já cheguei
Sempre que eu estou só com vocé
Me faz sentir que está tudo bem

Sempre que eu estou só com voce
Me faz sentir que eu sou jovem
Sempre que eu estou só com vocé
Me faz sentir engraçadinho, hein?

Agora e ontem, I will always love you
Embora que eu não esté, I will always love you
Não importa o que eu fale, I will always love you

Sempre que eu estou... com voce
Me faz sentir que eu sou livre
Sempre que eu estou... com vocé
Me faz sentir que eu não vou morrer.

Agora e ontem, I will always love you
Embora que eu não esté, I will always love you
Não importa o que eu fale, I will always love you.

So here it is, for melissa may, with all due respect to mr. m. may

Love that bassline and the tremolo'd vocals work well with the subtle guitar fills. There's neat little effects in here, like the scant strum of the a minor chord near the beginning. It builds to something quite beautiful.

Really nice, mica. I do believe this would qualify as my personal favorite of all the tunes you've posted here: everything about it works for me. Nice nice nice!

And yeah, whoever said that Os Mutantes were just goof-offs fucking around, well, they wouldn't know creativity if it came and bit 'em on the ass!

Yeah, those sure are some neat sounds... the gently moving bassline is nice, too. I dig.

This is really well done. It has a nice relaxed groove to it.

Bacana, cara! Parábens.

The quiet, hesitant vibe really works with the song and the mix. Nicely done.

I knew, I knew, I knew you would do something amazing and beautiful with this song. Now it sounds like the music box you find in the dustiest corner of a thrift store. I love punks tweaking sad machines, I love Os Mutantes, and I will always love you too.

micayetoca - just to echo others' thoughts, this is wonderful. Often tremolo makes my head hurt, but it works here very well. This has such a chill, smooth, relaxed vibe.

Great job.

This requests thing is the best challenge yet, methinks.

How'd I miss this?
Why does this work so well? Because you did it? It's a whole new song, which should have been done this way to begin with. Really great.

I didn't see the original request, it was a complete surprise. Amazing!
