Halleluyeah!

June 11, 2009 11:00 AM

Disclaimer: This started as a semi-serious effort, but quickly turned ridiculous. That's not how I normally play guitar, by the way. Even as a teenager in the 80s I didn't play like that, except in jest.

Being up too late and looking at a MeFi post about old Van Halen pictures probably had something to do with it (though I was going for Brian May and ended up with something closer to Judas Priest).
Also, this is the first time that I have sang lead on a recorded track and actually played it for anyone. So please be nice about the vocals at least. And sorry about the mastering - I know the high end got eaten and that it's too boomy, but I'm not going back and doing it again. I should probably do a serious version to redeem myself for this one.

Your voice is great, so is this cover. It feels like a montage scene from an 80s movie.

You sound sort of hesitant at the beginning, but later in the song you sound more confident. I only bring this up because you have no reason to worry, your voice sounds very good, so don't be afraid at all.

Very round version. Cool, The World Famous.

Sing more! And, yeah, this is the version that goes on the alternate Donnie Darko soundtrack.

Oh man, that solo kicks ASS! Perfect hair metal moment, in the best way. Dang these entries are way past intimidating...

This is great, and your voice sounds really solid.

It makes sense that you started semi-serious, and then added some slightly over-the-top moments, but really, it's not ridiculous. It's too well done to be ridiculous.

I love the way you break up the beat in the chorus, it gives it an airy feeling there that's very nice.

Awesome solo dude! Voice is great, playing is great, I liked the balance and the feel of it all.

That's awesome. And totally not ridiculous. I really dig the vocal effect. I was sort of hoping for some symmetry in the ending, though. But this is cool.

Turn on the smoke machines! Now point at me! Yeah, this works.

Oh, jeez, that guitar solo rules.

Love this! So happy to have discovered the Hallelujah challenge.

I must be an 80's disco girl because your version is awesome, TWF!

I love the solo so much. It could have been more ridiculous, bring those solo high notes in elsewhere go crazy. This is 90% of the way to raging 80s hair metal. Which is awesome in both a ridiculous and a serious way.
