Hey Jude (throat sung)

July 23, 2009 6:20 PM

I've been working on figuring out how to throat sing in a vaguely Tuvan way. This is my first recorded attempt.

This is very good. The overtones are very strong.

Yeah, umbú, keep it up, man!

You know, here in Japan throat singing, among musicians, is huge. Sometimes it seems like just about all the musicians I know can do a pretty decent job of it. Maybe you need to move over here!

umbu, you've outdone yourself! This is awesome and fascinating. What the heck caused you to think of trying it out?

Thanks, all. snsranch, when I found this free on-line throat singing course, I couldn't help but give it a try. I still can't do the full-on, gravelly 'core' voice that this guy pulls off with seeming ease.

Man, that's super sweet. Were you actually following some specific 'melody' that you've been practicing, or was this just improvised? Sounds really good, though. Way to just go for it. Drench it in reverb, and no one would know it isn't a monk in some cave somewhere in the mountains.

Oh, now I see the title! This time I sung along best I could.
