Springtime, All At Once

August 28, 2009 7:35 AM

Full title: "Everything Was Going Fine Until Someone Dared Springtime to Happen All at Once." From the album In Lieu of Talent. Maybe a nice way to kick off a Friday.

This tune was originally commissioned for a video game that didn't wind up being made. This is relevant because the last section, which diverges kind of weirdly (I think) from the rest of the song, was meant to be the "boss fight" music, and the song doesn't wrap up particularly nicely, instead just fading out. I still kind of like this one, though.

Holy shit, that ate my face clean off--in the best way possible. The instrumentation is delightfully grandiose, and the entrance of the guitar didn't feel awkward or wrong at all. I kind of wish you'd had a ripping guitar solo to go with the fade out, but it still leaves you with a feeling of kicking copious ass.

A standout. Excellent use of color, stays interesting - would like to hear it with your alternate ending.
