HOPE US FLAPJAX

October 4, 2009 10:31 PM

Despite the box at the top of the Music page constantly taunting "Updated!" there doesn't seem to be a Music Challenge for October yet.

Maybe Flapjax is out of challenges! Maybe he needs our help!

I always like the "Spooky Song" challenge for October, although some people might be sick of it.

I'm a little tired of cover challenges, personally, but they are popular, and it would be pretty cool to do a cover challenge based on this post.

How about you?

Hey, hey, sorry folks! I got the October Challenge in to cortex (he's the one who posts it to the Challenge page) a few days ago, but as I understand it, he's out there meeting America, and lord knows, there's a lot of America to meet, so it looks like there's been a little delay.*

BUT... Karlos, you read my mind, cause the October Challenge is, this year like last year... give us something SCARY. I'll reprint here what will read in the box on the Challenge page as soon as cortex finds time to get it there. As we go a little sumpin' like this:

It went like gangbusters last year, so, hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? This October, again, is SCARY SONG MONTH. Submit something appropriate for Halloween! In addition to the usual "mefimusicchallenge" tag, please tag your submission "scary".

So, there it is. And, yes, y'all, Karlos is right: I need more ideas. Send me some, please. Please keep 'em coming!

*note to cortex: this not a complaint, repeat, not a complaint

Oh hey shit! I totally started to do that on Thursday and apparently only imagined finishing up. I'll get the text officially up already if it hasn't happened already via someone else, sorry about the delay, folks.

*No sweat, flapjax.

Does the song have to be original, or can covers/adaptations work, as well?

LOOM, I think covers/adaptations would be fine.

I really had a blast with last year's spooky challenge; I hope I have time to do one this year. It's a busy month, though, and I'm trying (really hard!) to plow forward with a (musical) project I've had an idea for. Although I might be able to dovetail the two. That would be neat.

I think I got as far as a spooky Moog theramin track last year. Still on my hard drive somewhere. Oh right, that hard drive blew up. Nevermind.

Oh right, that hard drive blew up.

Hey, there's your scary song inspiration, right there.

chococat, just plug in the dead hard drive and mic the awful screechy grinding noises it makes as it attempts to read a dead sector. that'll send shivers up any digital musician's spine.

I'm likely to lay down an etherwave solo of my own, chococat--we should have a duel.

Etherwaves you look at it you lose.

That one actually physically hurts me.

...awful screechy grinding noises...

So...does this mean that Bjork is really an Icelandic word that roughly translates as "my hard drive is totally fucked and those arseholes at PC World just go "Heh - out of warranty, mate" when I take it back"? Or something like that??

ok this is lame, but LOOM me old cock sparrer I think you should cover The Monster Mash, except in this case it has to be called the MeFiMash (er...heh...)

Monster Mash and Flyin' Purple People Eater were serious staples of my early Halloween experiences!

So, what, now, is this the request line? I'm requesting!
