Dr. Who Goes To (Final Fantasy) Town

Guitar instrumental from several years ago—improvised riff on Dr. Who, a theme from Final Fantasy 1 for the NES, and Pink Floyd's "One of these Days".

A few rough bits in it—this was four takes for four parts, no retakes, the levels were a little hot, and I hadn't learned the golden rule* yet. But for random guitar wankery compositions, I still like it an awful lot.

Mexi-Strat into an Digitech RP-6 into a shitty soundcard. Hifi, goddammit!

Heh, I still have a digitech RP-5 sitting around. Every once in a while I think it'll be useful, but it's too noisy. Anyone want an RP-5?

I really like the bit in One of These Days you refer to. Never played final fantasy. This is a nice take on it.

This is a midi rendition of the FF theme in question. Ridiculous further amounts available at that site.

I liked the Gilmouresque flourishes. Nice...

Dr. Who + Final Fantasy = Awesome
Dr. Who + Final Fantasy + Pink Floyd = Superly Awesome

In other words, I dig it, cortex.

I was fooling around the other day and came across a totally accidental sound that I really liked, and could not figure out how I'd done it. I eventually realized that I was overloading an equalizer QUITE badly because I had the pushbutton on the back in the wrong position (which was used to switch the level). It sounded a lot like this, which as you said has the levels a little hot. The sound is kind of artificial but I think it has it's place.
