RPM Challenge: Well, did you finish?

I just burned my CD... it clocks in at 10 songs and just over 35 minutes. Who else got theirs done? Where can we listen?

This month, Gyrophonia has a new crowning achievement; a double album. 103 minutes + 14 tracks + all free improv + 3 two-to-three hour sessions + 6 musicians (including 3 guest demons) = Demons of Gyrophonia & the Rotatable Tremulant All-Stars. We're all extremely happy with how it turned out--it's obscenely good. Even if you're not usually into avant-garde music, you should give it a listen, preferably with a good pair of headphones.

Images of the artwork and Photos from some of the sessions can be viewed here. We even have videos of the performance of about half the tracks. Man vs sun hasn't uploaded all of them yet, but you can check out the videos for three of the four tracks that we've posted here.

(We're kind of built for this kind of thing; we recorded and completed about 100 tracks in 2009, including the 16 tracks of our 2009 RPM album, Jersey, which pales in comparison to DGRTA-S, but it took the recurrence of the RPM Challenge to get us to work toward an album, instead of just hanging out and making noise (not that there's anything wrong with that))

Oh, feel free to buy it, too.

I finished mine! Two days early, even, though it was a hell of a rush in those last few days.

It's called Inchoatery, and it's available right there on my music site for listening and such. I did a decent initial write-up on the album and the songs over the last couple days, though I'll probably keep blogging about it in bits and pieces over there for the next little while at least.

I didn't get around to doing any album art this time out; that might come later, but at this point I don't find myself trying to formally distribute music in an old-school sense so I kind of feel like once I've got the mp3s out there I've done most of what was really important to me in the first place.

Finishing is nice and all, but I'm also totally keen to hear about partial efforts or crash-and-burn stories.

The thing that intrigues an old cynic like me is - how do they know it's all been recorded in a month? Hat's off to all of you who did it or died in the attempt - way beyond me to even contemplate anything like that.

I believe they have tailored the prize structure to that sort of uncertainty, insofar as everyone who successfully completes the challenge gets to take home a big fat bowl of being-able-to-say-they-successfully-completed-the-challenge.

Anyone who wants to lie and hence cheat their way into claiming victory could potentially make off with stolen bragging rights, but the economies of scale work out in the end.

I finally got my tracks up on the Jukebox. Enjoy. I'll be gradually posting them here too, I suppose.
