Balkan Red Alert Part II

Just sneaking this one under the wire for the Hallowe'en challenge. A thrown-together palate cleanser from the recent power pop -- a piece of Eastern European-flavored surf about the scariest thing I can think of. I actually gave myself the shivers when I was putting together the ending so it's probably worth sticking around for that.
The only problem with my surf tunes is that I always end up writing guitar parts which are too difficult for me to play, and this one is no different, so there are several fluffs and fumbles, but you get the idea.
Incidentally, Part I was the first thing I ever posted to MeFi Music.
Another pop fact is that the tone on the lead guitar at the end is one which it's completely impossible to replicate on any other guitar than a Jazzmaster.

It's the construction of the tremolo (vibrato really) combined with the long scale. It means you can play a solo while hanging onto the trem, which has a *totally* different sound to any other trem out there. You get this fantastic wailing tone out of the thing. Add a bunch of reverb and some amp tremolo. I suppose a Jag is probably similar but the scale length seems to give the JM more oomph. If you try to do the same thing on any other guitar it just doesn't work.
If you're like me and don't have fantastic finger vibrato (which is bloody hard on a JM anyway because the scale length makes the strings very hard to bend) the JM trem is a lifesaver!

(I've tried to combine surf and death metal with absolutely no good results... there's only so much distortion you can put into surf before it stops being surf).

I quite like this, very enjoyable. Good mix of flavours, strikes the right balance

First track I came to this morning, turned out to be the jumpstart I neded. Nice modern take on surf, even if its now 7 years old :)

Forgive me for yapping on, but I think it's funny that surf style is so perfect for this. Early on I was thinking that it would sound good in Norwegian Death Metal style, but there is something about the crispy sound and reverb in this that is much more true sounding and horrifying.
(Now you've got me wonder what about the construction of the Jazzmaster makes it so singular! Must know.)
