Augmented Challenge
Since "remaking Tubular Bells" is such a vast idea, maybe a smaller-scale one would be appropriate alongside? I'd like to suggest a simple harmonic challenge: A song which features the sound of the augmented triad (like C-E-G#). It's a sound which has always fascinated me, but seems to be quite rare, probably because it also seems to be quite static and difficult to work into a progression. Aside from classical works (especially impressionist) the best example I know is Iron Maiden's Rime of the Ancient Mariner where the static harmonic quality is used to depict the boat dead in the water, with the crew dying... but that's a color effect, not part of a progression. So anyway - it could be fun to give an underused chord a starring role, or a subtle one... or just post more examples of creative uses here in this thread.
