Another Brick in the Major

Take Another Brick in the Wall parts 1, 2, and 3, jam 'em all into one quick bluegrass shitkicker, throw it into a major key, and you get this.

Done as a quickie four-track recording on my iphone, just acoustic guitar, upright bass, and two vocal parts. The transformation works pretty well, though I'd love to hear a solid bluegrass band bring in some of the solo work as well.

Nice,

I don't know if you know about this, but here it is anyway:

I know of that by reputation, but for some reason have managed even after all these years of Floyd fandom to not sit down and give it a proper listen. It was on my mind when I knocked this out, and I just tracked down their take on ABitW and gave it a listen. Lovely, a lot more doting by contrast than this, that's for sure.

Partly what's striking to me with this is how much hangs on just swapping that one tonic chord from minor to major—I think the rest of the song is actually harmonically unchanged, it's all the same chord moves, but it still goofyfoots the song really substantially.

Please know that it's a compliment when I say that this reminds me a bit of something Phish would do.

This actually works really well as bluegrass. Even lyrically. Maybe especially lyrically.

I have no idea why this works so well but it really, really does.
