Someone to Love (live)

June 29, 2014 6:50 PM

Live version of a song I posted a demo of a while back, featuring my friend John on the mighty Hammond A100 (a B3 essentially). An interesting moment, in that it's the culmination of a long journey that I lived out here on MeFiMu, originally as unSane, then Sweet Mister, and now Sportswriters.

When I started posting on MeFiMu I'd never fronted a band and had never really sung before, although I'd played in lots of bands, but I decided to start and front a band doing my own stuff. MeFiMu was a big part of that decision. The latest incarnation of the band is a five piece with two guitars, bass, drums, and a mighty Hammond A100, and we're now 90% of the way through our first album. This is a track from a live show last night, straight off the board, and it's the first time we've really sounded like I wanted us to.

The best compliment I got from last night's show was a lot of people asking if the songs were originals or covers and seeming slightly flummoxed that they were originals, I guess because they thought the writing was strong.

Anyway, a good use of the evolution tag I think.

I loved the original, but this carries an energy that I think is really on point. Good on ya for getting out front and making fans.

Sounds like you had a load of fun with this and good to hear something translate to the live environment! I'm not going to start suggesting challenges but a challenge to post live versions of previously posted songs....

I like that idea, Josh, but you gotta form a band, man!!
