Collard Greens

Most songs I write are about relationships and life and whatever, but this is a funk song, and it's about nothing. It has some pseudo-metaphorical lyrics that gained meaning after being put down, a direct quote from an old tennis coach I had in college, some electric piano I wish was a real and not just in my computer, some funky backing guitar by a friend of mine, a piano solo out of a wild west saloon, and then various layers of looped acoustic drums and electronic beats.

I should really version my songs. I adjusted some levels and released a new version, but I can't update the file silently here like I do constantly with soundcloud. So, for a better mix go here.

You know what goes great with Collard Greens? Green Onions.

Nice work, as always.

Ha! I didn't even think of that song when I was making this one, but pretty funny similarity in name and in tone.

Nice vibe on this, only thing I wasn't sure about was the drums, they seemed not to quite fit the rest of what was going on, both in tone and arrangement, and actually within the mix too (super close-miced sound, very dry). If I was gonna do another mix of this, I'd muck about with the drums, dirty them up a bit and not to mention turn them up!

Ace vocals though.

@greenish: Thanks! The drums were definitely a trouble point. At first I had them all electronic, pretty simple, just repeated constantly over the whole mix. But that felt boring. Then I tried all acoustic. But that felt messy, and got hard. So I did a mix of acoustic loops with electronic beats over the top. Did you listen to the other mix I posted in the comments? The drums are definitely louder in that mix.
