Virgin Ears & Old Man Lies

This is my attempt at a GBV-style rocker. I put a guitar solo at the end as (kind of) a goof. I hope the musical irony gods will forgive me. Mixing this was a real bitch. I think I could go back and mix this 20 more times and still not be happy, but I gotta let it go. Any specific mixing/EQ advice on this is appreciated. [more inside]

(Tumble) in the Wind [cover]

Here is a cover of the song (Tumble) in the Wind by Jackson C. Frank. I was drawn to this song by the way he is ostensibly singing to someone, but it feels distinctly like there really isn't anyone he is singing to. Piano, reversed piano, attempt at falsetto, ramshackle percussion.

January is the cruelest month

My partner (and his family) on the january/collaboration thing got sick. No blame there, but, in preparation for what didn't happen, I reacquired a huge bunch of music tools (mostly guitar oriented), so I am all dressed up with no place to go. Looking for collaborators to bounce ideas, files off in the january spirit, with the end result of a song. Hope that's OK (hope it's ok to put this here) posted by Sparx at 10:51 PM PST - 2 comments

Riptide

A silly pop song that I wrote for my band Boeufcake. We've been playing together for years, but we have few recordings worthy of sharing due to the tediousness of multitracking and the shit kicking good time we'd rather have drinking beer and playing loud. Be aware, there's a couple naughty words in this song. [more inside]

Forgiveness/Haiku D'état

Basically, this song is a very "epic" work dealing with an extraordinarily dysfunctional relationship in my past. He actually hit me a few times, but it's easy to blame yourself for things, as you hear in the beginning — especially when you do/did love someone — but nevertheless I detail in the song how I came to realize he was to blame, not me.

Live jam from our one and only real show. What happens when four friends who've never been in a band, never had any formal music training, never played an instrument form a band, jam for six months, then have a show. We never did really learn what the hell we were doing, or write any songs, but occasionally we made some cool sounds together.
