Hero (cover)

First album I ever bought for myself was Mariah Carey's "Music Box", and it was mostly for the single "Hero". Accordingly, I had to cover that for this month's challenge. I wasn't sure what the hell to do with it, so I recorded an instrumental with: drums, piano, upright bass, melodica, two acoustic guitars, baritone uke, banjo, harmonica, another harmonica in a different key, some flute thing I found, thumb piano, and theremin and also some more theremin, almost all of those just playing improvised melody takes. Time to Get Up

I don't know why I keep going back to this song I wrote when I was 17, but here's new version of Time to Get Up that I recorded yesterday. Starts slow, but includes lots of organ, a little cardboard box banging percussion and Leah Wilmoth's reverb'd out harmonies. Recorded on a Zoom H2. Wear headphones.

ColdChef's daughter Georgia wrote a great poem about the sun. I am learning the ukulele but am not particularly creative. I took her poem and set it to my version of music. It's the first song I ever recorded. Thanks ColdChef and Georgia! More details. [more inside]

On losing your desire to write music.... for the last 3-4 months I've had time, loads of it.
