Mercy Now
This moving song by Mary Gauthier is one of my favorites. Everyone needs mercy. Video.
You Can Make Me Feel Bad (Arthur Russell cover)
I've been listening to this song a lot recently, and admire Russell's sort of ambiguity. Featuring authentic San Francisco rain and street noise.
Head Like A Hole
You know how you were thinking the other day "I really love Nine Inch Nails, but I'd really love Nine Inch Nails if they were Sufjan Stevens"
Yeah, me too. Also for the first time shot video as I was recording.
Letterbox (TMBG cover)
A hushed but nonetheless exuberant take on a very good song from They Might Be Giants' album "Flood," recorded at my kitchen table [more inside]
Manhattan Skyline
Some recent discussion on MeFi about the band a-ha reminded me that I'd recorded this acoustic cover of one of their songs a long time ago. This is actually based on an arrangement by Kings of Convenience, who made some interesting changes to the original song structure. Me on vocals and guitars (nylon-string and steel-string). [more inside]
Both Hands - cover (Ani DiFranco)
Acoustic guitar and voice. Pretty straight as far as my memory of the proper song goes. [more inside]
F9mily (You & Me)
A multi-tracked violin sketch/tiny cover of an excellent song by Lil Nas X that I can't get out of my head.
True Love Will Find You In The End (Daniel Johnston Cover)
If you know of him, you may have an opinion that Daniel Johnston is a outsider genius, a troubled victim of hipster exploitation, or simply a not-so-typical independent musician who found his audience. If nothing else, his work is irrefutably full of sincerity and emotion.
This little piece of his is one of the great American songs. [more inside]
(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding
[Cover] Sentimental and simple, but a good reminder of what matters. [more inside]

Discovered that my new Focusrite will covert old cassettes to digital. This is from around 1978, my friend Karen and I covering a Lowell George and John Sebastian song that I learned off a Valerie Carter album. [more inside]
Gotta Get A Message to You
I thought I had uploaded this 1998 live living room recording but I guess not. Yet another example of my old band's Bee Gees fixation. [more inside]
High and Dry
A cover of Radiohead's H&D on resonator guitar in open G, for the minor/major challenge. I originally intended this to be a shitkicking country stomper but it turned into something quite different. [more inside]

I like this song, so I sang it in a room by myself.
Such Great Heights (cover)
I've always had a soft spot for this Postal Service song, so here's an acoustic cover featuring resonator guitar, pump organ, and ten copies of me. Lighters out for the last chorus, please.
Bad Romance & Pisgah
For Valentine's Day, 2012, a ragtime arrangement of two unlikely bedfellows: Lady Gaga's Bad Romance and the 1817 JC Lowry tune Pisgah (58 in The Sacred Harp). [more inside]
Don't Disturb This Groove (Ex Machina Mix)
A few weeks back, I bought an acoustic-electric guitar. I want to go back to the songs where I faked guitar parts and replace them with real ones.
I posted this cover of The System's "Don't Disturb This Groove" a long time ago. This new version changes the strumming style enough to necessitate the addition of a bass part.

Acoustic cover of my favourite song in all the world.
Tik Tok
My acoustic cover of the Mefi favourite by Ke$ha.
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Cover of the Ewan McColl classic, at the original speed for once. So I know covering a classic like this is pretty dumb -- how you gonna compete with Johnny Cash, Peggy Seeger and Roberta Flack? But I was really curious about something I read, so I wanted to try an experiment. [more inside]

This is what Slipknot would sound like if they were only one guy in his bedroom and didn't yell so much.
