Brother Casanova
New Years. Listlessness and Watching Your Life Go Bye.
But there is Love and Hope nestled deep in in the chorus. [more inside]
Thanksgiving Snow
Short piano solo: Snow falls on the prairie.
Like the 90's
A song about the winter weather or lack thereof, the defining El Niño of my childhood, family troubles, a metaphor about my lack of perspective, and an impression of a musical sheep. [more inside]
Nightmare Tunnel
Loops of slow disorienting guitar noises, and other sound wierdness. Sections fade in and out of one another, building and cresting. I picture it akin to an adult version of riding on Willy Wonka's fucked-up boat ride. [more inside]
We choose to go to the moon
Sonic equivalent of a child smashing toy cars into each other for the anniversary of when a man did a speech and August/September Music challenge. [more inside]
Baleen
Whalebone
This is Wrong
Sample reduced synthetics, atonal feedback, and other fancy marginally (ir)relevant musical gibberish. It's loud, and isn't that really all you wanted? [more inside]
Rocket City
A song about Huntsville, AL, for the City Songs challenge. [more inside]
New York March
One more 1865 banjo tune for the city songs challenge trifecta! This is another Frank B. Converse composition. Fretless banjo and tambourine, a bit of reverb for extra stateliness.
Philadelphia Jig
Another 19th century banjo tune for the City Songs Challenge, this one from Frank B. Converse's New and Complete Method for Banjo With and Without A Master. [more inside]
Free Man In Paris
For the May/June/July Music Challenge, billiebee and I collaborated on a Joni Mitchell cover. [more inside]
A la Habana
An ode to Havana in a mongrelized "guagancó" rhythm. It's badly sung in Spanish, and awkwardly played using congas, bongos and a batá. I've included my original lyrics in Spanish and an English translation. [more inside]
Boston Jig
Getting in just under the wire for the May/June city song challenge, this is a short little banjo tune from Buckley's New Banjo Method of 1860. Fretless minstrel banjo, parlor guitar, bones and tambourine.
Jackson (Lucinda Williams Cover)
My entry for the May/June 'City Songs' challenge. [more inside]
On The Banks of Sacramento (wubmachine remix)
Whereupon we invite an algorithm to make mincemeat of a rather squalid song and out comes happy accidents. [more inside]
Chicago (Sufjan Stevens cover)
Felt inspired to throw together a cover of an old favorite for the May/June challenge. [more inside]

Our Lady Of The Morlocks
A rough vocal for a rough congregation. [more inside]
Theme Song Theme
Not a complete theme song, more like the theme of a theme song. It makes mundane tasks like checking the mailbox seem urgent and full of import.
So-so Sonata
Instrumental piano piece. [more inside]
Happy New Year
I was going through some old stuff and liked this one more than I remembered. Once I saw the September Challenge, I had to post. Acoustic guitar with countless f-bombs. [more inside]
August, Again
For the music challenge, something that sounds like I've been feeling lately. Plenty of pump organ and piano. [more inside]
hypotech
Here's my entry for the MetaMeta challenge. It's a cover of dobie's track hypotech from a while ago, done with many acoustic layers. Thanks to dobie for actually sending me the lyrics too! [more inside]
Kitten (in my robot purse) cover
Coming late to this great mefimusic challenge. So many I still want to cover, but here's my noir version of umbú's excellent Kitten (in my robot purse), a song that packs way more adorable and awesome into less than three minutes than should feasibly fit. Hope I'm doing it justice. [more inside]
My Childhood At the Open Mic
If memory serves, in my pre-teen years, bands At the Open Mic tended to sound a little like this. I wish more of them had covered Cortex's songs. [more inside]
When John Drinks
Whimsy Will Be the End of Me
A remix of an old acoustic cover of a Slipknot song. Glitched-out and re-sampled beyond recognition.
Pick me up too
This is my cover of http://music.metafilter.com/7288/Pick-me-Up for the April/May Music Challenge.
I could make a lot of excuses for how bad this. I didn't quite figure it all out and I re-arranged it a bit.
The vocal melody is somewhat different because I had a hard time singing the original and I had to improv on lyrics as I just couldn't interpret the originals totally.
But overall, this was interesting and fun. Hope you don't cringe too much Sredni Vashtar
The Raven
The entirety of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven." It seemed like a good idea at the time... [more inside]

you awoke like
Pretty excited about this one. This was a weird kinda experimental duet I wrote a long time ago and I'm finally starting to mess around with it for reals. It features my lovely and talented friend Pat. As per usual, I could always use some advice. Tricky stuff starts around 1:07. [more inside]
Deck the Halls
This is about the least effort you could put into wishing a merry f'n Christmas. Now with sleighbells. Of course.
Mele Kalikimaka
Sometimes I just can't stop myself.
Merry Christmas, everybody.
Merry Christmas, everybody.
Who's Gonna Keep it Together?
Kringle steals the singer's girlfriend and takes her to Berlin in his sleigh. Hardly a nice thing to do, especially around the holidays. [more inside]
Christmas in Tokyo
Three days into December; it has got to be time for some Christmas songs!
Four years ago I wrote this song, with lyrics in Swedish, to communicate my Christmas melancholy to my family. Two years later I was still sad, but now in English, and on camera... [more inside]
Long Story Short, Short Story Shorter
I was really hoping to get this posted in time for the November Challenge, but technical difficulties and the sudden realization that oh I really need a glockenspiel combined to -- wait, it's still November in Hawaii? I CLAIM FLAWLESS VICTORY [more inside]
We'll Meet Again (In A Minute)
A great song by Vera Lynn, not performed by Vera Lynn.
Guitar, vocals, pump organ (back again!), a slinky, and hand sounds. [more inside]
North Korea Goes Bang
A brief, throwaway cover of Johnny Violent's '90s Gabba classic North Korea Goes Bang for this month's 60 Seconds and Under MeFi Music Challenge. Over 9000 hours in MS Paint Audacity. [more inside]
Everything You Threw Away
60 seconds of corny pop. [more inside]

I Am The Cosmos
After flaking on too many challenges I was determined to get this one in under the wire, despite whatever life threw up in the meantime to distract me (quite a lot as it happens, but in a good way).
