Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child

I've always loved this spiritual, and I loved recording it as well. It was a balmy evening in New York, and as I was singing, I felt as much in the center of the world as far far away....

Piece of My Love

I recorded this song two years ago. I wrote it and never got around to finishing it. Like all songs I can't figure out how to end, I threw a neat little instrumental on the end. IMO, I've come a long way since this song - if only my recording equipment made me sound like it! If there's anyone out there that could suggest a recording mic (at a reasonable price) that would work well with my voice (help: making my voice sound richer) - go for it!

Happiness

This is off of my album "Long Story," recorded in summer 1999. It's instrumental acoustic guitar, with some Spanish guitar touches. If you like it, let me know, and I can post other parts of the album. It starts and finishes a bit abruptly because, on the album, each song musically runs into the next.

Riff

A little acoustic riff I recorded a little bit ago, I want to add it to a song. A little rough around the edges I know! Just bought this recording hardware and I have been testing it out.

Stay Away

A short, pretty, desperate conversation about need and rejection. Plus arpeggios!

Welcome to the Jungle (acoustic)

This is an acoustic cover of the very excellent They Might Be Giants song Welcome to the Jungle. As a gag, the beginning instrumental bit copies the Guns N' Roses song Welcome to the Jungle. Though my old "band" did this, just about every instrument on this track (including the backup vocals) was done by one bandmember.

A Face Among the Rest

Another song from my 4-track college days. Beware! Moody folk music ahead. Yes, it's about a girl. Isn't every song? (More Info.)

Bagel on the Malecon

A very New York-bred outlook at old-time Cuban music, recorded entirely with .. violas! This was my attempt to create asymmetrical but memorable melodies, clear textures crammed with material, and experiment with multitrack viola as a concept, an ensemble. The sound of the classic Cuban bands had all that - except the violas, that is. This track appears on my newly released CD, the VJOLA: WORLD ON FOUR STRINGS

From 1993-1998 I was the Mean Spirit'd Robots. Here's a little song from '96 or so. Hope you like!

Somewhere In Between

Before the web, before I left college, I wrote songs. Lots of songs. This is from a tape I recorded in my apartment somewhere around 1993 on a shitty Tascam 4-track.

We Have the Technology

My band recorded this for a Song Fight. It's quirky casio acuostic rock, with just a hint of out of tune accordion, and percussion supplied by a djembe. That's me singing.

Take It Easy

It's okay - I was a student when I wrote this. And yeah, I suppose it's spoken word.

Red Sky

A fading red sun and black trees. Written in a fleapit of a kitchen under the glare of a striplight in West Ealing. Be patient and wait for the drums to kick in.... ...the song got us all our gigs in 2005

Most of Mine

There was an episode of Will & Grace in which Harry Connick Jr's character cheats on Grace and then tries to get back together with her. Embarrassingly enough, that TV show was the inspiration for this song.
