Bee drone, May 16 2016, Noon - 12:06pm
For an installation at Moogfest in 2016, I put a bunch of sensors in a beehive and used the data to generate drone music. The sensors included air temperature and air pressure and some touch and light sensors to sense when bees were entering and exiting the hive. This is a six minute excerpt from an 8 hour recording which is available at Bandcamp (it's free!)

Burn
More concertina and bayan based minimalist weirdness, this time with trombone!
Noisy bits are just clickety clacking the bayan's keys, and crumpling some paper.
Pulse
I'm learning to play the bayan (Russian Chomatic button accordion) and the concertina, and accidentally fell into Terry Riley / Steve Reich territory. [more inside]
Activity Indicating Activity
Track 2 from my new release Carefully Introducing Problems. Drone/dark ambient/spooky synth/a touch of Berlin School.
100% of proceeds from the album will be donated to Reclaim the Block and Afrorack. Today, June 5, it is #bandcampfriday and I will be personally matching donations. [more inside]
Migrane
A little melodic drone I made as I was coming out of the end of a migraine. [more inside]
Wintry Mix
An ambient/drone piece from my newly released album Float (pay-what-you-want on Bandcamp). I'm breaking a habit of expressing anxiety and foreboding through my music, and aiming to spread some tranquility and wonder instead. [more inside]
Vox Inhumana
From my newly released album of the same name, at starthief.bandcamp.com. Something on a spectrum of drone/ambient/abstract electronica. [more inside]
Cymbal Drone in G Major
Digging back into some old ambient/noise/drone ideas.
Synth, guitar, and bowed cymbal. [more inside]
Your Radiance
An old recording from the cassette 4 track days, newly rediscovered. Pretty poor recording which I have tried to clean up as much as possible here. [more inside]
dreams over drones
A very brief (50s) sketch I worked up on the train the other day. Crunchy synth bass drone in conversation with a ringing guitar (also synthesized).

Voices, echoes, splices
The Bone Church
I'm working on a set of songs/sounscapes for a friend's online comic project. This is a spooky ambient piece using some recordings I made of a guy moving chairs around in a cathedral in Vienna, some sleep breathing, some musical saw, and a weird broken African instrument a friend gave me.

Warmup Jam
This was recorded by the band I'm in (Ghost Flowers) on August 1, 2013, at our practice space before the actual practicing-of-songs started. It's a thirteen-minute variation on one chord, has nice ebbs and flows, and has a steady mid-tempo beat. [Not part of my "Unu..." series, just filler while I juggle four songs of that at once.] [more inside]
Beneath the Leaves
Should be evocative (of something) in and of itself. Don't know, really. One of those things... [more inside]

Not sure how to describe this one, but I sampled a lot of disparate stuff and used some found sound I have.
Blizzard
This is one of those "let's drift away" songs... hazy gazey spacey and dreamy all in oneā¦ If one is prone to daydreaming or aural hypnosis, this may not be the song for you :) Just the same, this is definitely worth a listen to all others. This is Sounds of Sputnik.
Heaviest Cannons
ambient/drone // electric guitar/electric cello [more inside]
Listen
Listen, a song by Sredni Vashtar. Recorded, as usual, at rehearsal. The loop drones throughout and the guitar and bass are sparse and simple.
In A Soylent Way
Carbon 7 doing our mellowest, jazziest thing yet. Joined again by flautist Fred Mitchim. Kept to a pretty sleek 9 minutes. [more inside]
Guardian Angel
Here's an old song from Sredni Vashtar, revamped, restructured and recorded at rehearsal a few weeks ago [more inside]
Billions
'8 billion pounds is rising from the ground'. A song about the city. [more inside]
Aphasiatic Fields
I've always found the sound of a big tuning fork wobbling freely on the strings of a guitar (laid flat) really mysterious and interesting. This track is a whole bunch of that, with a reverb patch that reverberates not the direct signal, but the signal passed through a bank of very short delays that act like a resonant comb filter. The track ends up with buzzing the rung tuning fork against various open strings. There's more of my stuff at https://soundcloud.com/seclude and it's all CC licenced. Hope you like.
Erosion
I bought a cheap casiotone keyboard. I have to figure out how to learn to play it, but in the meantime... drone!
Backwards
As the unimaginative title suggests, this is my entry for the April MeFi Music challenge. It's an ambient type of thing, largely made from reversed guitar recordings. [more inside]
Ambiguous Sense of the Future
Post-rock always seems embedded with the sense that something is dire; however, shake it up a bit to get a kind of post-rock indie shoegaze vinaigrette and Sounds of Sputnik is likely what you would come up with. This is Ambiguous Sense of the Future.

No Last Request
Another world premiere, friends, from a tiny little joint in deepest Koenji. Once again I'm bangin' on the back of my diddley bow, with nothing else but a drone and a stombox to accompany my mournful cries. Lyrics and video here.
Precious Moments
Fun with uncleared samples. Stairway to Stardom, Nina, Boots Randolph. Looking for feedback.
Dark fire road drive
Slow, drony, monochordal, minimalist, ambient electro.
ALEATRON 0.01
moody experiments. it's another evil night. requires good speakers or good headphones for the full experience (leans heavily on low bass tones). [more inside]
Lifelong
This began as an improvised piece involving a Poly Evolver synth, a Memory Man pedal, and an iPhone running Moog Filtatron. Then I decided to bury everything in noise, fuzz and tape flutter until it became nigh-unlistenable. Enjoy!
Heinreich's Compulsion
Ambient modal psychedelic clawhammer banjo drone? Sure, TheCoug, whatever...

grid flux_1
Filtery drone from my JUNO 60 meets ukulele playing exactly four notes. No verse, no chorus, no changes, no development... just does what it does for 2 minutes and 43 seconds, then stops. It's the soundtrack for a video here.
