Six is where you take the three and make it two times

I was alone. It was late at night. March was approaching its end and I had to sing a song about the multiplication table. I had no lyrics. I recorded some guitars and then pressed record on the vocals to see what would happen. [more inside]

her name is hope

I wrote this after attending a concert late last year. Just finished (?) the recording. It's kind of a tribute to the musician I saw -- maybe you can guess who it is? Either way, it's a track that features guitars, pianos, fretless bass, vibes, drums, vocals and a lap steel part in the chorus that I'm really satisfied with. [more inside]

violent night.

ok.. but what if I had played my guitar like I was closing my eyes imagining pretending to be metallica, (hey no lawsuits please some kind of monster, it truly doesn't sound like y'all at all, and only happened in pretend land. oslo nights

This is a quiet, meditative, minimalist instrumental piano piece, with occasional visits by vibes, fretless bass and lap steel guitar. You might want to play it somewhat loudly to hear some of the softer notes. Do you think it's finished, or should I add something? [more inside]

HoverBoardzzzz

I imagine this as the music for one of those games where you're flying down a neon space tunnel or wormhole or something, dodging asteroids and mythical space creatures. Or maybe one of those levels in Battletoads where you're riding, well, hoverboards.

first step

An instrumental track that went under the working title "pseudo-eastern." Most prominently features guitars, lap steel, fretless bass and programmed sitar sounds. The subtle percussion is a spinner ring kind of like this one, run through a healthy dose of reverb. [more inside]

snake (demo)

Another entry in my recent demo series of posts. I posted a not-quite-done version of the track here, featuring piano and overly heavy drums. It's a song about the old classic video game "Snake". I'm sure I'll revisit the "proper" recording some day, but in the meantime, this is a nice performance. [more inside]

do you ever

This track switches between three time signatures, and features an intro with a style of singing I guess one could call very vaguely eastern. It's a slow and gentle affair with softly distorted ebowed guitar, piano, and xylophone. It also includes a guitar solo in which a single note is played repeatedly. And lyrics that are pretty silly.
