sonic youth vs. john fahey

To rock or to pick? That seemed to be struggle that played out on this old cassette that I recently dug up and digitized. This is another 12-string fingerstyle tune in an alternate tuning (Cc Gg Cc gg gc ce). I played around with tuning the double-coursed strings to different notes.

cooloop

after the recent posts from umbu and corduroy, I couldn't resist upping this. I tried... but... Wasn't designed to and isn't specifically related to, but I'd like to dedicate it to the memory of jeff healey.

It's Nedroid!!!

Nedroid's unofficial theme-song (with official, Nedroid-penned lyrics!) About five years ago (in the early stage of my mefi lurking) my good buddy, TheMadJuggler asked me to throw together a little tune for his net-buddy, Nedroid. Here's a pretty faithful version of the song I came up with. I post this as the last song recorded in my shitty little Haverhill apartment, as a fan/love letter to a fine cartoonist. [more inside]

Louis Collins

Quick 'n' dirty cover of Mississippi John Hurt's old song played on my resonator guitar. Levels are a bit off, volume jumps up and down a little... but here it is anyway. [more inside]

Assasins Never Cry (rough mix)

There are 22 James Bond movies (counting the one in production), but there should be more. And these additional nonexistent ones need theme songs. We in Derailleur have taken it upon ourselves to provide the theme songs, hoping the movies will catch up with us. [more inside]

Chester

This is the intro to a song my band has played live a few times. Live, I do it with loops, although it's not quite this developed. This is another Pro Tools experiment, thanks to the wonderful Swem Library Media Center.

hospital walls

Guitar-based melancholy song with vocals. I've had this around for several years, and keep thinking I'll continue to dabble with the outro. I think it's time to just let it out. I wrote this after the breakup of a 7 year relationship. I like the lyrics, and the little solo, and many other things about it. The long fade-out ending is over-indulgent and a bit off-key, but imperfect as the song may be, it has heart.

King Kong Song

This is the second song I wrote when I started learning the guitar in February. This was when I could not sing as I played guitar unless I sang one syllable per strum. Starts slow, but the second half is kind of fun so don't give up right away. [more inside]

gone

I think this is one of the catchier songs I've come up with in a while, though I never seem to be a good judge of that. At any rate, it's a short and simple track about intense love gone missing... or something like that. [more inside]

Little Wing

When I first started playing the guitar I was obsessed with Jimi Hendrix (okay I still am). I spent hours learning as many solos as I could and listened to the blues album over and over again. At the end of the day though, this has always been my favourite Hendrix song. It's beautifully understated, short and sweet! [more inside]

So Does Everybody Else, Only Not So Much

Adaptation (more or less) of an Ogden Nash poem of the same name. Essentially an apology from an aging man who spends his time boring people with the same stories.

in memories

A collaboration with non-mefite Riadsala, who sometimes records bass for me. This is a pretty strange track, with a lot of effects going on, with a weirdish tempo change into the chorus which is backed by something in the vein of guitar shredding. [more inside]
