Someday in the future, we'll be space pirates together. [more inside]
Jesus Was A Crossmaker [Judee Sill]
In which I attempt to turn songs I love into 80s space disco for no particular reason.
Journey of the Earth Probe/Thanks for the Introduction
In an attempt to introduce themselves to their interstellar neighbors, the denizens of the human planet launch a series of long-ranged probes broadcasting information about their cultures, histories, technologies, and sciences. [more inside]
Forest of Illusion
A ghostly fox materializes ahead on the forest path and "hmm"s at you. "Hmm? Wait, how are you talking?" "A fox appears out of nowhere and your first question is how it talks? Humans..." "Look, it's my first time outside the bounds of reality." "You have a lot to learn. Follow me."
My old computer choked on even basic things, and that killed my interest in making music. This is a lot more fun when I can throw things around without worrying about it hanging for 30-300 seconds.
Storm Clouds Of Jupiter - part 1
Abstract spacey synth doodle. [more inside]
In the spirit of perpetually re-arranging and re-recording our songs, 'Received Wisdom' has now evolved into this rather sleek beast. [more inside]
Three Way Mirror
Track one off our most recent release, a dual album set called Infrared & Ultraviolet. This is the first song on Ultraviolet. For once we get right to the point, & make a short & sweet 8 1/2 minutes. Made up on the spot - totally improvisational. Titled such because there's three of us & we mirror one another as we play. Plus, it breaks space. [more inside]
Third Song, by Bulbs for Leonard
"Space Calliope Noise" is a good descriptor for this, the first "song" from my new la la blah blah dum dum dee dah music thing, Bulbs for Leonard [more inside]
Tell Her I Love Her
An astronaut's lament [more inside]
Carbon 7 is an improvisational/experimental trio that creates spontaneous music at the moment it's recorded. I left a tad of dialog at the beginning, so you could here our "process." Dennis gives Ron a hard time about choosing a key, then I call out C# & start it off. Clocks in at a whopping 26.5 minutes, but it evolves slowly the entire way. [more inside]
Dance Like Everyone's Watching
Carbon 7 - these things just go where they go. From our new release, Operation Fishbowl. This one clocks in at 13 minutes, with a bit of a Latin flair in spots, which is odd for us. [more inside]
Sredni Vashtar - Epic
Not a cover of the Faith No More song. Oh no. [more inside]
The Elevator Clown
From the 12-21-14 Carbon 7 session Inter-Sol-Stice. We went from meeting every couple of months down to 1 or 2 a year, & I fell behind in mixing, so this was somewhat of a forgotten session. A minor epic at 18 minutes, but it holds together. [more inside]
Carbon 7, recorded 12-21-14, winter solstice. As close as we've gotten to ambient. [more inside]
A big and brooding song recorded in rehearsal by Sredni Vashtar. [more inside]
The Bitter Lake
We're cheating slightly, as I've already uploaded a version of this song. But hopefully everyone will agree that it sounds a whole lot better. Plus we've added some (discrete) synth parts and have even gone to the trouble of making a video. More tunes on our Soundcloud.
A Legacy Denied
Finally finished my latest project, VOIDBREAKER. Ominous space synths, gritty breakbeats and a consciously gritty production. This is the fourth track from the EP just released on Spotify. [more inside]
This was recorded by the band I'm in (Ghost Flowers) on August 1, 2013, at our practice space before the actual practicing-of-songs started. It's a thirteen-minute variation on one chord, has nice ebbs and flows, and has a steady mid-tempo beat. [Not part of my "Unu..." series, just filler while I juggle four songs of that at once.] [more inside]
The road trip song - a galloping guitar ramble underpinned by soaring synth strings. By Sredni Vashtar
Inspired by the Adam Curtis documentary, recorded with a variety of gear and 'mastered' using LANDR.
Aircraft Recognition (live)
What a difference a few months makes. The original has been reworked and extended and was recorded live a few days ago on the London stage (the Alleycat in Denmark Street). A song by Sredni Vashtar.
Oort Cloud Rain
Another improvisational recording from 3-9-13, the night comet Pann Starrs 2013 first because visible in the Northern Hemisphere. We recorded in celebration of the celestial event. [more inside]
Launching into OuterSparse
A happy flight through space, dodging comets and surfing on gas clouds. [more inside]
An experiment in writing songs without choruses. [more inside]
As in comet. Carbon 7, doing the free-form space jazz thing, again. [more inside]
Short and sweet. A song about aeroplanes overhead with minimal vocals. Live rehearsal recording by Sredni Vashtar
Carbon 7. Recorded March 9th 2013, the night comet Pan-Starrs first became visible to the naked eye in the northern hemisphere. [more inside]
Sredni Vashtar - Awake
We made an EP.... here's the title track. Featuring Sredni Vashtar's usual swirls and loops and noises, it was one of four songs recorded and mixed late last summer in South London [more inside]
LDR in Space, or Interstellar Song
A brief, ridiculous tune about space travel.
If psychedelic space rock can be sparkly, this song would be the epitome of that dynamic.. Or shimmery or glistening or whatever. Glitter is in the eye of the beholder.
Everybody likes music for partying mode, but what happens afterwards? This song would be the perfect accompaniment for the comedown afterwards (and even the hangover). Chill, centered, reflective, harmonious. I think :) [more inside]
Tastefully blending several genres together, including indie or alternative rock, dreampop, space rock, psychedelia, ambient and shoegaze. Sounds of Sputnik is a project producing a sound that immediately brings several associations to the surface - like dreaming, space, flight, exploration, reflection. Worth a listen whether or not you have or have not traditionally gone in the above-mentioned genres of music. [more inside]
This is a hip-hop/rap song dedicated to Fomalhaut, a proto-planetary star of the constellation Pisces [more inside]
Listen, a song by Sredni Vashtar. Recorded, as usual, at rehearsal. The loop drones throughout and the guitar and bass are sparse and simple.
Here's an old song from Sredni Vashtar, revamped, restructured and recorded at rehearsal a few weeks ago [more inside]
Lama (Dunaewsky69 Remix)
This is one spacey tangent-filled whirlwind of an electronic mix, slicing elements of Ummagma's original version of 'Lama' into a whacked factory of digital sound - not for the light hearted when it comes to electronica, but certainly worth the trip :)
'8 billion pounds is rising from the ground'. A song about the city. [more inside]
I felt like making something tonight, so I made a space thing. [more inside]
A mid-tempo piece, built around the opening drum riff. Carbon 7 is an improvisational jazz/space/rock trio that just makes it up on the spot. [more inside]
A Final Word From Our Sponsor
Carbon 7, plus guest Fred Mitchim on the flute. Making it up on the spot, as usual. [more inside]
Some songs take you on a trip (and bring you back), while others just send you drifting endlessly and blissfully. For us, this song belongs to the latter, building layers of layers of sound and effects - like new galaxies being opened. [more inside]
Carbon 7 again, making it up as we go, per usual. This one seemed to come from a slightly dark and empty space. [more inside]
A Sunday morning rock-esque tune. [more inside]
the booster song
Noisy, swirly rock song recorded at our band rehearsal a few weeks ago. Apologies for the bum notes and obvious errors. [more inside]
Talk to Her
If you were to roll up some element of Brian Eno, Robert Fripp and Bill Nelson, and paint it with a slight shoegaze ethereal hue, this might be what you would get… Enjoy this Ummagma track! [more inside]
A team of astronomers using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) has spotted sugar molecules in the gas surrounding a young Sun-like star. [more inside]
While the term space rock is kicked around quite often these days, there is something else out there: space pop. This song epitomizes that term, as reflected in the title itself. Poppy, spacey and ethereal trip to the cosmos. [more inside]
With all the fuss going on about the Jayne Hats from Firefly, thought it might be fun to share the first song from our Firefly-inspired music project, Leaves on the Wind. [more inside]
One fish was the first fish to walk on land, one fish was the first fish to breathe the air. [more inside]
