Re-ordering MeMu playlists?

Semi-meta-ish: Ability to re-order the songs in your Playlists?

I'd really like to be able to re-arrange the songs in my MeMu Playlist. Does anybody else think this would be a good feature? We seem to be going through a quiet time in MetaTalk, and I'd hate to ruin it with a pony request that nobody else wants.

Agreed. It'd also be neat if your playlists were accessible on the same tab that are.

So it'd look like:

Songs | Talk | Charts | Challenges | Playlists

Maybe in that tab you could have your playlist, and maybe a feature with the most accessed playlists as well. Maybe we can start favouriting playlists themselves! Maybe, maybe, maybe...

Heh. Talking out some of the details of such a request here is a totally reasonable thing to do, but when the rubber meets the road a specific feature request probably needs to land in Metatalk itself or Matt and pb and the non-Music-haunting general public will never see it, yeah.

I find that I use the playlists very little, so I haven't thought much about them in a long time; I was trying to slot every single Music post into one of five or six (subjective, personal) categories for a while when it first started but lost track of that sometime in the first couple hundred posts I think.

Which is my way of thinking I'm curious what sort of stuff people would like in the way of some hypothetical Playlists 2.0, and why.

Dept. of overgeneralization:

From what I've seen, some people use playlists as a "folder" for a group of songs, while others use it as a "mix tape." The former group doesn't need anything beyond a flat hierarchy; if they're in the mood for an acoustic jazz song, they open their acoustic jazz playlist and pore through it. Someone from the latter group might make a playlist for a workout with the most intense songs in the middle, or for bedtime with the quietest songs at the end. potch's request would make MeFi Music much more useful for the latter group.

danb: 'zactly. I'm not using my playlist as a categorical bucket, it's a list of the stand-out, listen-to-again music on the site. I find a good day on Music will entertain me far more than my iTunes library, and would love to, at the very least, arrange the order of some of the fantastic tunes that populate this site.

If my playlist grows a whole lot more, I'm probably going to create another one, or a handful.

Yeah, I'd be totally down with this. I also think spiffing up the playlists would make people listen to them more. All I would want, really, is just a way to rearrange - nothing more. A new tab, as ageispolis suggests, would rock also.

Regarding the whole tabs thing, I cobbled together a small GreaseMonkey script that adds a "Playlist" tab, and makes the tab bar show up in a bunch more places. Feel free to shout at me if you hate it, it makes the site not work, or if you want some more itty-bitty Music ponies stuffed inside the script. Danke!
