Just This Once

I wrote this song at a time when it felt like life was shitting on me. Hardly great poetry, but it is what it is:

I know I tend to see a future that never comes
I know I tend to analyse the situation a little wrong
I know that what I want to happen isn’t usually what comes to pass
I know that the world’s full of shit and every person in it is an ass

Just this once,
Can I have all the things I wanted, too?
Just this once,
Can I be rewarded for being totally honest with you?
Just this once,
Can I do the things that I really wanted to do?
Just this once,
Can I get what I want?
Is it all right with you?

I know that things don’t always happen the way that you imagined them to
I know you can’t control your own fate the way everyone would like to do
I know that the fairytale ending doesn’t happen like in movies or books
I know that the tiniest detail can ruin the best plot hook

Just this once,
Can I have all the things I wanted too?
Just this once,
Can I be rewarded for just telling you the truth?
Just this once,
Can I do the things that I really wanted to do?
Just this once,
Can I get what I want?
Is it too much for you?
