MeFiMu debut of the Electric Drum! From the Smoke Benders' recent Hokuriku tour, this is a tune I've posted before in a solo version. Video here.

Thanks, sns!
Y'eah, that kit is cool, ain't it? Numa-san put it together: it's very compact. The only thing that's mic'ed is the kick drum. Only, it's not a kick drum. It's a cajon, which also serves as his drum stool. He retrofitted a kick pedal so that the beater strikes backwards. His snare drum is tiny (8 inch, I think) and the rest of the kit is comprised of cymbals, cowbells and woodblocks. No toms. He can set up in even the tiniest of rooms. But the sound is plenty big enough, and his groove is impeccable. Really happy I met him, and that he's so into this group.
And here's something really unique, that I've never seen another drummer do: because the kit is so tiny, and all the pieces of it so close together, he uses shortened sticks. He saws off about, oh, a third of the length of normal drum sticks!

Thanks, Karlos!

That's one of those little tube preamps for the clip-on mic he uses for his tuba.
Tell me more bout the electric drum.
It's just a little plastic drum (tunable by screws!) that I attached a piezo pickup to. I'm running it through some distortion and a cheap harmonizer. I mostly play it with one hand, with the other hand holding it and changing tension on the drum head to alter the pitch.
