Please Don't Take My Photograph (Abu Ghraib Lament)

June 23, 2011 11:12 PM

I wrote this in 2004 after the photo's came out of the prisoners being tortured and photographed like prize big game kills at Abu Ghraib in Iraq, though it might have a double meaning. I enjoyed keeping it really simple, with an old drum machine, my Fender Jazz bass, and synthesizers like my digital Moog and Mellotron and Korg. I like making synthetic moods like mono moog moaning. (say that three times...)

Please Don't Take My Photograph (Abu Graib) - Disbro 2004

Please don't take my photograph
Please don't take my photograph
Somewhere out in inner space
Somewhere features have no face
Somewhere where my knees don't shake
Somewhere where my heart won't break

Please don't take my photograph
Please don't take my photograph
Somewhere where there is no judge
Somewhere that there holds no grudge

Please don't take my photograph
Please don't take my photograph
Somewhere where there is no wind
Somewwhere where there hides no grin
Somewhere where all time stands still
Somewhere where no blood may spill

Please don't take my photograph
Please don't take my photograph
Somewhere there's no me or you
Somewhere there's no one or two

Solo

Please don't take my photograph
Please don't take my photograph
Please don't take my photograph
Please don't take my photograph
