April 23, 2015 2:48 PM

A structured improvisation for double bass, piano & tabla. Feat Kimberley Shepherd - piano, Kazuko Sato - tabla. Co-written with Kimberley Shepherd.

This piece deals with the mutually-dependent relationship of order and disorder in both musical structures and the world in general. Through a series of 5 semi-improvised movements we explore the paths this relationship traces in create=ing isolated moments of clarity. Inspired by the subsurface ocean of Jupiter's moon Ganymede.

I. Abiogenesis
II. Coalescence
III. Crystallization
IV. Fragmentation
V. Equilibrium

I find lengthy improvisations quite challenging but I found parts of this really lovely.

A little bit jazzy, a little discordant, but it works really well. And those strings at the end... man that really got me. So good.
