The War On
November 26, 2015 3:51 PM
Satire.
My Song Fight! entry for this week.
lyrics:
The war on dairy has to stop
It's reached my favourite coffee shop
They won't put milk in to their blenda
My beverage killed by their agenda
And there's a war on sitting now
It seems these fascists won't allow
My taking two seats on the bus
They want to silence all of us
We will rise up
For the free and true
Got to stand up
Who'll be left when they come for you
A war on where I park my car
Because those people can't walk far
So I let Jesus take the wheel
Sorry that's just how I feel
The war on humour will come next
My uncle told me in a text
He swears that smallpox was a hoax
And forwards me his racist jokes
We will rise up
For the free and true
Got to stand up
Who'll be left when they come for you
The war on garbage seals our fate
We're living in a nanny state
And Big Recycling always wins
I sort my trash in separate bins
We will rise up
For the free and true
Got to stand up
Who'll be left when they come for you
We will rise up
For Red White and Blue
Got to stand up
Who'll be left when they come for you

Thanks, uncleozzy.
It's actually a banjitar, this Gretsch one. They came out with this "Roots" line a few years ago and I sort of impulse-bought it. It was around $299 at the time, seems to be quite a bit more now.
It's actually really tough to mike, it's pretty boomy and the sound bounces off a wooden resonator panel at the back. Plus I play with my finger instead of picks. So there's your mid-range plunk.

This is so great, as always. But um... is it satire if there aren't any animals in it?

Ahhh, man, maybe I should trade my banjo for a banjitar. I only ever use it for special effects, and I'm garbage at really playing it. At least a six-string would feel familiar.

Yeah that was my thinking when I was going to buy it and was trying to decide between the banjitar and the 5-string banjo. In the end I just thought, no matter how optimistic I am, odds are I'm more likely to reach for it and play if it's familiar and who am I trying to kid that I'm going to learn a whole new thing. I don't give a shit about "authentic", I just like the sound. If it's good enough for Neil Young, hey.

Boom chuck FTW. Most especially enjoy the chorus but everything about this is great.
Makes me want to hang those ignorant bastards, whoever the hell they are. I'll take your word for it if you point me their way and hand me a rope.

What sort of banjo do you play? I feel like I can never really get a good recording of mine; it's just so big and bright, and I can't get the sort of mid-rangey plunk you've got here.
