Heh. That's hilarious. There needs to be more metafilter-related music.

I bet matthew chen listens to this every morning while spinning around in his room like Mary Tyler Moore.

This should be used for the MetaFilter by Microsoft, powered by Vista commercial in 2007.

If I never do anything else with my life, at least I have this to show for it. I'll have to awkwardly work it into conversations at my 10 year high school reunion.

"What have I been up to? Oh, you know. This. That. Nothing much. Aside from, y'know, getting favorited all to shit and back for this song I wrote for this website. No, no, really, it's a funny story. This guy Matthew—well the site is run by a guy named Matthew, too, but that's a different guy—anyway this guy, he was spamming, I mean, not like email spam, but spammy comments, you know, he was...hey, where are you—

"Right. Well, uh, good to see you! You look great!

"Bitch.

"Oh, hey, Todd! The Toddster! Man, ten years, huh? You look great! Oh, what have I been up to? Not much. This. That. Well, there was this song..."

Picture this: I'm alone at work on the boss's computer, listening to MetaMusic stuff, and I play this track. Out loud I say, "Oh my fucking God!" which means, "how great is this song!" Thanks cortex.

can anyone please explain the inside joke this song is referring to?
posted by crazyray at 10:45 PM on July 8, 2006

Follow my "as requested" link in the song post text, sir. All will be revealed.

crazyray: matthewchen posted spam (since deleted, of course). adamrice called him out in MeTa with a thread that simply said "matthewchen is spamming." Later, stavrosthewonderchicken said "There's a jangly, wistful guitarpop song somewhere in the phrase 'mathewchen is spamming'...." cortex agreed, and stavros spun the song into its own MeTa thread.

On preview, I just wasted six minutes of my life.

It's okay, danb. You go to write a comment, and in the ensuing ten days some fucker slips in a shorter version of your answer...

I can't believe I didn't leave an awestruck comment back when I first heard this, and I also can't believe I can remedy the omission a year and a half later.

Hey, Music threads are never archived!

Also... I wish this song would be longer. I wonder if this'll show up on anyone recent activity page.

No, I don't think we go back that far in the RA check against Music. Though maybe we should.
posted by cortex at 8:24 AM on May 8, 2008

By god, yes. I only found out today that Music threads are open forever, and I bethought to myself—and now to Katullus and cortex—LONGBOAT. AHOY. LONGBOAT. AHOY. LONGBOAT. AHOY. And like that.
