never alone
brash, downbeat electro. one part melancholy, two parts wibbly wobbly bass
The Question and the Answer
A short instrumental I wrote on the bass in 1989, but never got around to recording until now. This is song #1 in my series "Unu Kanto Po Semajno" where I plan to record approximately one song per week during 2016. This song covers the period January 1 through January 8.
Nostalgia
This one has maybe the most tracks of any song I've ever made. [more inside]
The Flank of Bridenstein
I had a bit of fun with this: it's about a relationship gone wrong. I believe that the dual bass part is rhythmically interesting. Double bass and synth bass rhythmically intertwine and are coupled with a synth trumpet. There may be some Brian Eno influences a la The Drop.
My album is available for $5 download at CD Baby: The Dividing Range.

a strange and mysterious adventure
This instrumental track was originally named "Em wrong" because it came out of absentmindedly playing my guitar while watching tv and accidentally strumming an E minor chord incorrectly on the 3rd fret. The resulting song has an uneasy, mysterious vibe. [more inside]
oslo nights
This is a quiet, meditative, minimalist instrumental piano piece, with occasional visits by vibes, fretless bass and lap steel guitar. You might want to play it somewhat loudly to hear some of the softer notes. Do you think it's finished, or should I add something? [more inside]
first step
An instrumental track that went under the working title "pseudo-eastern." Most prominently features guitars, lap steel, fretless bass and programmed sitar sounds. The subtle percussion is a spinner ring kind of like this one, run through a healthy dose of reverb. [more inside]
Eleusinian Mystery
The premier performance of my beloved Pearl Bass Flute. AskmeaboutLOOM is up to his usual tricks on delay.

Bass Overdriven to Scary
Figured a bass overdriven would be spooky enough. [more inside]
Freedom Tape
A simple, melancholy electro instrumental that I recorded a couple of years ago. Percussion ideas came from various hip-hop sources; the melody is my own. I use it as background music during a spoken-word segment of my live shows. [more inside]
The Words That Escape
An instrumental about words.
The Semi-Coherent Funk
A 1 minute, 43 second ditty. This was the first thing I did when I got Garage Band 2 years ago. All the drum loops are stock, and I'm riffing on bass & "lead" bass. I improvised over the groove until I got something I liked, then looped it.
Ocean
"Ocean" is an instrumental track from my recording project, James, Not Jim. It's a smooth, melodic, jazz/fusion piece that features electric bass guitar. Some more extensive recording/performance notes are here. Hope you like it. If you do, there are two more tracks over at myspace.com/wheatdesign.
