Wicked Little Town (cover)

One of my favorite tunes from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, given the super lofi iPhone Fourtrack treatment. Guitar, melodica, piano, drums.

I love the whole album/film to death, but realized today that I haven't listened to it recently. I've thought about covering songs off it a bunch of times over the years but never get around to it, and I haven't got around to any recording at all lately, so this is sort of a brute-force two-birds-with-one-stone back-on-the-wagon thing I knocked out this afternoon.

I'm pretty sure the arrangement differs on the turnaround from the original; I don't remember exactly how those worked, so I just faked it here. There's also a lack of significant vocal harmonies, because I hadn't run through the parts enough ahead of time to be able to e.g. pound out the piano stuff as well as sing a harmony line.

I'd like to think I'll come back and give this a more thorough pass some time; it's such a song of dynamics, capturing that on something less sound-squashing than my iphones mic seems only right.

"The Origin of Love" next, please. This is great.

I've thought about doing the whole album but man it'd be hard to do it justice. I've run through Origin of Love in a few different keys and a styles in the last couple years but never really settled on something I felt dynamite about, but maybe I should give it a shot at some point anyway.
