Little Egypt
October 11, 2007 3:08 PM
Once again, a song by my pierced and tattooed puppet
Sailor Martin , detailing a burlesque dancer in Cairo.
Composed by singing new lyrics over an existing public domain song, "Suez" by Clyde Doerr and His Orchestra, recorded in 1922. Sung directly into a Casio Exilim digital camera on digital video mode and then edited using GarageBand. I am putting this into this month's challenge because the song has lots of notes, is sort of spooky, and my puppet's voice is vaguely Tom Waitsish.

Six sailors went to old Cairo
Where did they go? To the Little Egypt show.
She danced in veils and the sailors swore
She wore a smile and a ring
And she wore nothing more.
Oh! That girl! And oh! That night!
I think about it all the time!
Oh! Should I? I think I might!
Her pleasures are sublime!
Oh Little Egypt you are calling to me
What hides behind your veil? I must see!
Oh! That girl! Little Egypt!
I'm sure she's naked back there!
Oh! That night in old Cairo!
I seen some things I dare not say!
She danced a dance of seven veils
And then her veils fell away!
Oh Little Egypt what a sight to behold!
The men they threw you coins of silver and gold!
Oh, that girl! Little Egypt!
I tells you she Wasn't wearing nothing at all, man!
