cover of the 1st track on matthew sweet's pre-Girlfriend record "Earth".
Matthew's version was a bit long and much as I hear that he likened his playing technique on his first instrument - bass - to Yes (maybe he was joking, I dunno) - he probably won't ever used mixed meter like I did here in the chorus.
This cover was thrown together minus the vox for a gig i did at the Heart of Texas music festival, which occurs here has occurred here in Austin simulatneously with SXSW the last couple years... anyway I was down to the wire, so the drums are neither loose nor totally non-mechanical sounding in terms of sequenced technique, but you git the idea. Couple days ago I decided to slam out the vocals in my best faux-matthew-sweet voice. ; )
For those folks who faved me before, I thank ye, it's been while. Full length comin' to completion hopefully by a bit after xmas!

Thanks! I've been away for a while, Ranch. Various random health ailments smacked me down... stupid biology.
When are the brains-in-cool-android-bodies coming, again?

Hi bitterkitten, dropped by to check out your mic sound, as suggested! And... glad I did! I don't know the original, never listened to a single thing by Matthew Sweet, far as I can recall, but I like this a lot. It's just great fun the way you've blended in the bleeps and blorps and unexpected synth solos and such into this. Sounds great! Cool arrangement and production, fun panning tricks. Really nice.
Oh, and the mic? Hey, the vox sound great to me! Perhaps in a more spare arrangement, where the vox are more naked, you'd hear where you might want to use a better mic, but, even then, I dunno.... all depends.
