12xu

January 21, 2008 9:47 PM

This is a cover of the Wire song 12xu that my band Saladabar submitted for a compilation of Wire covers by Japanese bands.

My jobs for this recording were programming, alto saxophone, baritone guitar and singing.

Maybe it would've been helpful to have heard the original to get the long intro.

Once you guys catch this on fire, it's fast, frenetic and crazy. I Love the second half:)!

This is fantastic, but yeah, the intro is too long. But the rest is really, really, really good.

Just a guess, but the fact that the original is 1:55 probably was why the intro is so long, and probably 15 seconds of the original is the singer introing the song with "Alright, there is... a game... and it is called... 12XU". Here's a YT version of a live version by Wire, sns and micayetoca. So having a long intro on this was a pretty great play on the song. Wow, you guys totally Wired the Wire song (deconstruction and all that). This is great as far as execution. Thanks for sharing.

We had a totally different intro we were planning on using, but decided it wasn't working a few days before we went in to the studio. Rather than drop the intro altogether we decided to do something like what we were doing originally, only with toy instruments.

Yeah, I actually posted my previous comment after listening to the song here, online. Then I downloaded the song and heard it outside a computer and I liked the intro a lot. I had never heard the original, but after hearing the version in that live youtube I appreciated this even more, because it's quite a different take on the song, which is what covers are about.
