Holding Back (new album version)

January 27, 2008 5:22 PM

An older song with a new recording. Another one from my upcoming album.

The original version of this song was a quick demo with a hand drum and hastily-recorded vocals. I always meant to go back and re-record a "real" version of this song but stalled for almost four years until my album project gave me an excuse.

This version features my buddy Michael Spaly again, this time on violin (he played mandolin on At The Airport, posted a few weeks back). We recorded four violin takes separately with the intent of choosing the best one, but during mixing I noticed that all the takes put together sounded incredible, so we left them all in.

Also featuring Laurie Katherine Carlsson on harmony vocals. She has near perfect pitch and did her parts in one take. So any off-key warbling you hear is me :)

Great stuff, Scott. That string section worked a treat.
Looking forward to the album.
