Trust in You (Old Mix)
August 2, 2008 12:50 AM
This is a noise/shoegaze track I made this spring.
Technical Info:
Made with FL Studio 7. The intro/outro chords are horns from the movie 'Goldfinger', run through some massive crunch and tremelo.
I did a different mix (much cleaner, less distortion, use of synths instead of samples) but eventually felt that this one worked out a lot better.

Nice use of My Bloody Valentine's "Soon" which is, like, the shoegazer track in my mind.

This is great and, like not_on_display said, is a nice use of "Soon". Did you know that album was done in mono? That still blows my mind.

I'm surprised you picked up on the 'Soon' usage-- I was trying to get that sound on my own, gave up, and ended up sampling the chords from one of the verses, stacking them on top of each other in the Direktwave plugin, and turned it into a 'pad' of sorts.

dunkadunc: "I'm surprised you picked up on the 'Soon' usage...."
Well, when you said "noise/shoegaze" in the description, before I even listened, I immediately thought of "Soon." When I listened to it, I thought, "This sounds just like 'Soon,' oh dear." But as I kept listening, that was replaced with, "Hey, it works!" It's like, you had the cajones to take the one song that most people know from a particular genre, and you managed to rework it into something newer--it wasn't a ripoff of MBV, but paid sorta tribute to it by using it to make something else.
(It was easy to pick up that it was a direct sample of the song, though. It's a tough sound to reproduce; it is so unique. Nothing sounds quite like MBV.)

I like the Moogy melody too. This should be the theme to a BBC science fiction television show.
