Then He Kissed Me (Ultra GAMELAN Mix!)

January 8, 2009 8:52 PM

A cover of "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals that I threw together this morning, primarily featuring gamelan instrumentation.

I'd sampled a bunch of gamelan instruments at my old college about a year ago, but never got around to doing anything with. So I pitch-shifted them to fit a western scale, and did this. The original version of this song happens to be one of my favorite songs EVER, btw.

Is that warbly organ sound a gamelan instrument too? This is kinda cool.

No, that's just an organ. And the kick/snare/hats aren't gamelan instruments either.

The instrument playing the first main riff is a Saron, the one that comes in during the second verse (in the off-beats) is a Bonang, and the high one that comes in closer to the end is a Peking.
