Immortal Jellyfish

February 18, 2009 7:15 AM

The second effort for this year's RPM Challenge from my experimental, noisy super-happy-fun project, "The Very Best of Spaz." Like its ocean dwelling namesake, this Immortal Jellyfish always manages to revert to its juvenile form.

That's me on the drums this time. You can tell I'm a little rusty in a few places (particularly starting at around 1:32 in the song, when I get a little over-ambitious with a couple of fills during a long unedited section). In my defense, it's been years since I played drums in a band (haven't even had a kit in four or five years), and apart from getting together with these guys every few months, I don't keep in practice anymore. Yada yada yada. But then what's a couple of sloppy drum fills among friends, eh?

Yeah, this totally, utterly, and completely rocks!

P.S. the drum fill at 1:36-1:40 is my favorite.

NICE! This is like Tortoise playing funk in a blender set to "crush ice" with the early lineup of Monstermagnet who accidentally travelled 15 years into the future on an acid trip or something... Or, something. I like it.

Someone buy that drummer a drumclick! :P

You've not heard NEARLY enough bad drummers if you think that was that bad.

Neat tune.

This is way likable, saulgoodman. It sits (in a comfortable armchair, I think) right on that fine line between actual funky pocketness and carefree lunkheaded dopeyness. And that's a really cool place to be.
