Insomnia is a terrible thing to waste.

This is really good stuff. The part when the drums and the guitar come in is just too good to describe. Did you record or sample them?

Ha! This is, lyrically speaking, the sort of thing that is going on in my head constantly.

This is impeccably executed silliness of the highest order. Wow.
Now what I want to hear is someone doing a deadpan earnest version of these exact lyrics with CSNY's full four-part harmony.

You've pulled off a remarkable feat, which is to destroy one of my favorite songs and still make me love it. You fulfilled a Music Challenge that doesn't even exist, which is "take a song that makes people cry and turn it into a song that makes people laugh."

Jeeze, you don't even sound tired. You clearly needed to get this out; sleep wasn't even an option. Totally realized. Good job.

ORthey, that's a brilliant challenge category. Flapjax at midnite, can we make it so?

I had no idea. I like it even more now. Thanks for the link, umbú.

Thanks, y'all! It's good to be posting here again--I spent the last few months trying to get a band together, but it didn't work out. I'm determined to re-devote myself to recording for a while.
micayetoca, the instrumentation is bass, drums and Rhodes, all fake, and all "played" by drawing in the notes (and library rhythms) on MIDI tracks with a virtual pencil. It would probably be better with real instruments, but I was afraid that the obstacle of learning a part would make me say "the heck with it, I'm going to bed." Also, it seemed like something that should be done as quickly as possible before I talked myself out of being so silly.
cortex, yes, exactly. My inner third-grader is always rewriting lyrics, usually in the most inane way possible. I try to sit on him, but sometimes he gets loose.
ORthey, love the challenge idea. I think it would be cool to allow going the other way as well, turning something funny into something sad.

Fantastic, and impeccably timed, as well. I've been listening to So Far like crazy lately.
