Was this really improvised? Even the melody of the recorder? posted by micayetoca at 8:34 PM on

Yep, it's a flute.
The flute and guitar were fully improvised, and the lyrics are from a song I wrote a couple years ago (before I had ever enjoyed my first pastrami sandwich). posted by man vs sun at 5:54 AM on

Right. I always make the mistake because in Spanish the recorder is a "flauta dulce" and the flute is a "flauta". There are some flutes in Colombia that naturally give a reverbish sound similar to the one you used here. In Colombian they are galled gaitas, even though they have nothing to do with actual gaitas, which are bagpipes. posted by micayetoca at 6:40 AM on

Well your premonition of Pastrami on Rye was SPOT ON!
Just earlier today I had to choose between a "sandwich" comprised of pita, lettuce and chicken breast and...A GIANT GLORIOUS AND RADIANT PASTRAMI ON RYE.
I love the song too BTW! It's kinda "beatnik" but much more fun. posted by snsranch at 3:54 PM on

micayetoca, A flute that emits that sort of reverb would be amazing. We cheated and used a guitar f/x pedal.
snsranch: I think pastrami is my favorite sandwich now, partly because of the song. Did I talk myself into liking a sandwich I've never had before? Weird.
The original track is really upbeat and poppy; I think I prefer the beatnik vibe. posted by man vs sun at 4:13 PM on
