Hallelujah (island version)

Cover of Hallelujah for the June challenge.

Finally got the right balance of free time, motivation, and advance knowledge of the monthly challenge to be able to submit an entry.

Fantastic! I've been waiting for someone to finally come along and do something wholly different with the song. The best covers, for me, are the ones that sound nothing like the original...and that use LSDJ.

Kind of agree with askmeaboutLOOM re the originality (which is great), but I think you needed to make the vocal a bit more intelligeable. It's really just a lot of distortion that could be saying anything at all. The only bit that really relates to the source track is the "halleluja" hook. To be a true cover version you do, I suppose, need to demonstrably use the original lyric...........otherwise it's not a cover but a different song that happens to be called "Halleluja"?

I have to disagree with MajorDundee -- not only can I hear a decent amount of the original lyrics in there, but the vocals are absolutely hilarious in their authenticity. Don't change a thing. Especially not the last line:

Aisw swuz ye suzan ya wa peepa ya sezwa babylon.

Truer words have never been mumbled over an island beat.

yea, i'm not really big on intelligible lyrics - especially for covers. although for this cover i made a make sure i knew what the lyrics were and tried to sing them all. i guess its hard for some people to understand my jamaican accent.

i'm also a pretty big fan of covers that you can't identify as such right away. songs where you're listening to them for the 4th or 5th time before you realize, "hey, is this a cover of louie louie?"

This is wicked! I love it when the original song is just a starting point and the cover takes off in another direction. Good stuff, thanks.

Wow, this is like...chiptune reggae? I wasn't expecting to hear that today. This is pretty rad.
