Tubbs' Tune (seed)

August 5, 2009 2:48 PM

This is a modest little theme recorded (badly) way back when that could be taken by a jazz combo and used as a blowing vehicle - it could be stretched out, modulated and pulled around at will. It's no more than a sketch really - but that's all it needs to be. If there are any jazzers amongst the community who want to use it - be my guest. Dedicated to the late, great Brit saxophonist Tubby Hayes.

Hey Major! Thanks for the seed, that's good stuff and I love me some good Jazz. Also thanks for mentioning Tubby. I've just spend a 1/2 listening to him on youtube, and it really helps me envision how this seed can grow.

Thanks guys. sns - check out "Dear Johnny B" on Tubbs' "Mexican Green" album. Never fails to send shivers down my spine - absolutely stunning soloing to rank, in my humble op, alongside any of the US greats. Tubbs was no mean exponent of vibes as well. Little guy, big talent.

alongside any of the US greats, funny that you mention that. As I was listening to Tubbs, I kept thinking, "Wow, for a white guy, that cat can really throw down!"

Awesome and thanks for turning me on to that stuff!
